Because it seemed like a very different and interesting place. It is very beautiful, it is secure and it is part of the happiest country on earth.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I don't receive any money to help me with living costs. My European friends do, they receive a monthly amount of euros to deal with living costs. I'm not quite sure of how much they receive.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aarhus?

Students in Aarhus are very relaxed during the semester, and they study very hard at the end because the finals are 100% of the grade. Classes are not mandatory to assist, so many of them do a lot of self-studying.

Most of the students live in apartments or in dormitories with shared kitchen. It is very common to use a bike as means of transportation.

Life in Denmark can be expensive, students are always looking for sales and discounts, they have a very simple lifestyle.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Aarhus to other students?

I would recommend the city of Aarhus to students that like small towns and simple lifestyles. The city is beautiful, very clean, people are kind and helpful most of the times.

The weather this summer was great, I even went to the beach for a couple of times. Once autumn starts though, it is not that nice.

University is also great, the buildings are very nice, they have great teachers. However, it is not easy, you have to do a lot of self studying.

You'll find a lot of people doing exchange studies, and there are also lots of activities to socialize and get to know the city, most of them hosted by the Student house.

What is the food like?

Danish food is nothing exceptional. Most of the traditional food includes pork and potatoes.

Restaurants in Denmark are very expensive, so it is more common for students to cook their own food or buy it at school.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Aarhus?

It is very hard to find accommodation. I got lucky and school found it for me, however you cannot choose it. A lot of internationals had problems with finding housing because school couldn't provide one for them either.

How much does it cost to live in Aarhus?

Housing expenses can be high, when it comes to food you can find cheap things in the supermarket sometimes.

Restaurants, bars and the cinema are quite expensive.

The transportation is also very expensive.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

There is a free language course that the government offers. However, Danish is one of the most difficult languages to learn. I would recommend you take the courses only if you are staying for more than one semester.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Aarhus from your city?

I had to take 4 planes to get from my hometown to Aarhus. Since Denmark is a very small country, I think most international planes arrive to Copenhaguen. I would recommend you take the bus rute 1000 from Copenhaguen to Aarhus, it has a student discount and it is the cheapest way to get to the city.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aarhus?

Either downtown or to the Latin Quarter. This are the places that have more bars and clubs, everything's there.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aarhus?

I would recommend Oli Nico in the Latin Quarter, is one of the cheapest ones.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Definitely go to the Botanical Gardens, Den Gambe By (Old Town), ARoS Museum, the Deer Park. If you can, look for the free walking tours on Facebook!

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Aarhus in the future?

Be sure to bring some rain boots, an umbrella and a warm jacket! It can be very cold and rainy.
