What is it like to live in Maribor? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Maribor is a small city and and residence of Štajerska Region/Slovenia. It has University, a National Theatre (drama, opera and ballet), an Art Gallery, two cinema centres (Kolosej and Planet Tuš), shopping centres (Europark is the biggest and close to an old town centre, then you have also Qlandia, Tuš and Lecrerc (outside Maribor in Hoče direction). You can buy grocery in different supermarkets: Spar, Mercator, Lidl, Hofer, Tuš, where you can get Slovenian or international marks. But when you live in Maribor, you should buy some national Slovenian food which is Krajnska klobasa (a sausage - you must cook it and combine it with kislo zelje - a cabbage and potatoes) then we have also two interested sweeties; one is gibanica and the other potica (different variations: with poppies, nuts, etc. or the special one which is called potratna potica). If you want to eat cheaper, I suggest you go to the shopping center Spar or Qulandia. There you have restaurant Spar with menus and a big salad bar. It is also possible to take away.

How much does it cost to live in Maribor?

Single room in a private apartment is apx. 200 - 250 eur (includes rent and operating costs). Most owners want to have a caution.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Maribor? Is there any advice you can give?

Maribor, as I said before, is a small city, divided by a Drava river to left bank and right bank. You could reach most spots by walking or on a bike. All faculties are situated on the left bank, except Medical Faculty.

In Maribor, there are many private apartments and houses to rent. The best location to live as a student is Gosposvetska cesta (left bank). It is really near most of the faculties, close to the Students Club Štuk, University Sports Centre Leon Štukelj and swimming centre Pristan.
