Why did you choose to go to Erlangen, Germany?

FAU was the only school that my university had the agreement with in Germany. And since Erlangen is one of the headquarters of Siemens, I thought it would be a good opportunity as a mechanical engineering student.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

First I came here thinking about staying 6 months. But then my university offered me another 6 months in Erlangen and I extended my stay until the august. I get 400€ from Erasmus each month. But it's not enough here in Bavaria so I spend more than that.

What is the student lifestyle like in Erlangen?

Since it's a "student city" (30-40% of the city population are students) I enjoy my life here in Erlangen. It's a little bit small but you get to know lots of people as an international student which is nice.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Erlangen to other students?

I would definitely recommend it.

What is the food like?

You can find lots of varieties of food, for example: you can find lots of Turkish Döner&Kebap places, there are some traditional German food places, American bar&grills, Italian and Greek food, etc.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Erlangen?

Yes, I pay 200€ monthly.

How much does it cost to live in Erlangen?

I spend 800-900€ each month. Of course you can spend less but since you are an Erasmus student, it's your duty to party.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

Bavaria has a different dialekt but when you get used to it, you can communicate with people. There are language courses provided by FAU.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Erlangen from your city?

By plane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Erlangen?

There are lots of dormitory parties taking place on weekdays, which I'd totally recommend. Apart from that, I'd recommend Kanapee, Gummi Wörner, Steinbach Bräu as bars and Zeitsprung, Paisley as clubs.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Erlangen?

Ali Baba (Turkish restaurant), Arizona (American bar&grill) and Taverne Mythos (Greek restaurant).

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Hugenotten Platz.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Erlangen in the future?

Viel Spaß!
