Why did you choose to go to Aveiro, Portugal?

Actually, I chose Aveiro for two reasons:

  1. Because UA is a well ranked University and the part of my M. Sc study in Aveiro was matching my background and research interest.
  2. Portugal is really a beautiful country and I liked the Portuguese people and the Portuguese culture so much.

My Erasmus Mundus Scholarship is for 2 years. The amount of the scholarships is 48 000 Euros for 2 years, including tuition fees, mobility between countries and living expenses.

What is the student lifestyle like in Aveiro?

In Aveiro, you can learn and have fun. I really and living Aveiro. It's a very nice student city. After all, it depends on the person, but for me, I liked Aveiro so much.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Aveiro to other students?

Of course yes.

What is the food like?

It's really nice food in the city, but to be honest, I didn't like the food in the University restaurant.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Aveiro?

In fact I found it difficult to find a convenient accommodation the first days I arrived in Aveiro, but I managed to find it at the end. This is also a criticism for the Erasmus team in Aveiro, that they do much more work on organizing parties,.. etc rather than finding solutions for those Erasmus Students seeking accommodation. However, I appreciate the idea of the Erasmus buddy, I really thank the Erasmus team for my Erasmus buddy, she was so nice and helpful. Her name is Maria Cachide, by the way.

How much does it cost to live in Aveiro?

About 600 Euros will be ok, I think

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language is difficult, I was always saying OBRIGAD, that's all. I tried to learn it but couldn't.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Aveiro from your city?

I travelled from France to Aveiro, taking the airlines. It is not expensive.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Aveiro?

Of course, Praça, I hope I'm writing it correct.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Aveiro?

I used to go to Jumbo, there are very good restaurants there.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Aveiro in the future?

Yes, Please before you go to Aveiro, try to contact the Erasmus Mundus Association there through Facebook and ask them to help you to find accommodation and ask for an Erasmus buddy who will help you.

Finally, enjoy Aveiro, it's a really beautiful city and the people there are among the best people you can meet in Europe.
