Why did you choose to go to Athens, Greece?

My passion for Greece started in High School. I studied Greek for one year, with 6 other students. I loved the Greek old language and its unique alphabet as well the culture. I wanted to continue these studies, but I was the only one from my school with this wish, so I quit Greek and started something else. Worst mistake of my life I know, but know was my chance to make things up with myself and leave for Athens. Because, where can you learn more about every Greek aspect than in the city of the Gods itself? You just have to explore and discover it yourself. Trust me, each day will be a pleasant surprise.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I'm doing an internship at the DMC Greece for 3. 5 months.

At the end of my internship I will know the amount of money that supports me here. But Athens is not expensive at all. Amazing food for not that much money.

What is the student lifestyle like in Athens?

As I'm doing an internship, I'm not living much like a student. But I do like going to a cafés with music and cocktails, the beach, shopping... And all of that is very easy to find and to reach. I even started ballet classes here in Athens; because you know, you only live once.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Athens to other students?

As I'm doing an internship I do not know anything about the University. But the city, definitely, a big big yes!

You have the city with ancient buildings and an amazing culture, as well many beaches and (mostly) beautiful weather. Everything is easy to reach by tram, bus or metro, and on top of that, it is so safe here.

What is the food like?

I never tasted something bad up till now. Everything is delicious and has a very good price-quality value.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Athens?

I had to search a long time, but keep looking and you'll find the perfect place.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

It depends on your type (and situation) of your flat, how often you go out and shop... But like I said before...

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

I speak some basic words in Greek now, it's not too hard. But in the center most of the people also speak English.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Ateny from your city?

For me (Belgium) by airplane.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Athens?

I have not been to a club yet, but the "360 cocktail bar" is amazing for a afternoon or even an evening/night. You'll be drinking and chatting at the rooftop of a high building, so you can see all Athens, and yes even the Acropolis, around you.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Athens?

As I don't live in the center, I can recommend some good places in my neighborhood Nea Smyrni. "Lefteris" for example offers you a full plate with souvlaki's, french fries, pita bread, sauce and vegetables for only 7 euro... You also get free water everywhere you go for a drink or a meal. Only in the more touristic/expensive restaurants you have to pay for it.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Acropolis, the Old Olympian Stadium, Temple of Zeus, Cape Sounio!
