Why did you choose to go to Athens, Greece?

It wasn't my first choice, I have to say, but I definitely don't regret coming here.

How long is the placement? How much grant do you receive?

The placement is 9 months in my case. I applied for the MEC grant which depends on your level of English, and I received around 1800€ for 9 months.

What is the student life like in Athens?

The student life is incredible! There are parties and events all the time. The atmosphere is really good.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Athens to other students?

Yes I would 100% recommend it. Everything about it is great.

What is the food like there?

The food is really good, and it's homemade which is even better. Some places are expensive to eat out at, but if you look around you will find some cheaper places.

Did you struggle finding accommodation in Athens?

No, I had it sorted before I arrived, thanks to a friend. But there are lots of options, it isn't difficult to find a flat.

How much does it cost to live in Athens?

It depends on the area in which you live. I live in the centre and it's really cheap, around 200€ a month, which is really worthwhile.

What is the language like? Did you take language classes in the university?

The language is complicated, but the Spanish find it easier than other nationalities. I go to a free course twice a week, with each class being 2 hours. It is fantastic!

What is the cheapest way to get from your city to Athens?

Plane.

What places are good for going out and partying in Athens?

It always depends on the area. Gazi is the area with most nightclubs, but it is expensive to buy drinks there. Exarchia is more 'alternative' which has more of a different atmosphere.

And what about eating in Athens? Can you name some of your favourite places?

There are so many places that I wouldn't know which is my favourite!

What is there to do culturally in Athens?

All the typical cultural visits such as Acrópolis, Ágoras. .. you have to visit them as soon as you get there!

Any advice to future students who want to go to Athens?

Don't worry about anything, do ESN events, relax, travel and enjoy!
