Olvidémonos por un momento de las cadenas de comida basura rápida que todos conocemos como McDonald's o Burguer King.
Esos juegan en tercera regional comparados con muchísimos restaurantes dedicados especialmente a las hamburguesas que se pueden encontrar en América. La verdad es que no soy muy de ir a restaurantes de comida rápida, menos aún cuando estoy viajando. Me gusta investigar y probar la cultura gastronómica local. Pero en viendo que allí no hay una cultura gastronómica como tal, sino que es un popurrí de todo, pues tienes que ir eligiendo los lugares que más se adapten a tus gustos.
En aquella ocasión no había nada que elegir, simplemente llegamos al sur del Lago Tahoe, paramos y dijimos, eh, ¿qué es eso? Un Rosie's Cafe. Allí que fuimos a saciar la gazuza de buena gana.
Rosie's Cafe es un auténtico restaurante californiano. Es un restaurante "vintage" muy curioso y donde por encima de todo destaca la calidad de sus platos.
Nada más entrar sorprende el hecho de ver bicicletas colgadas del techo (y da un poco de miedo a algunos comer debajo de bicicletas sujetas con hilos jajaja).
Las camareras (al menos ese día eran solo chicas) son súper amables y risueñas, y da gusto cuando la gente te atiende con una sonrisa en la cara. Tardaron un tiempo medio en servirnos, pero desde luego la espera valió la pena (tenían bastante gente, por lo que es normal que tarden un poco, y más viendo la elaboración de los platos),
Aviso a navegantes y gente que no sea de muy buen comer. Si veis en la carta "sandwich de pollo" y os parece un poco caro para ser un sandwich de pollo, olvidad la imagen que tenéis del sandwich de pollo español. No os van a llevar dos rodajas de pan de molde con un trocito de pechuga de pollo. Más bien os traerán esto (mirad la foto un poco más abajo) que es lo que pidió una de las chicas del viaje jajaja. Y se quedó con una cara... bueno, como nos quedamos todos, que esperábamos el típico sandwich de pollo. Y ves que lo llaman sandwich porque no lleva carne de hamburguesa. Pero el pan es el típico de hamburguesa (aunque muy bueno y crujiente) y está montado como tal jajaja. Muy americano, sí.
Pero lo que más me sorprendió fue la calidad de mi hamburguesa (y no sé por qué narices no le eché ninguna foto, supongo que de aspecto era una hamburguesa normal y no me pareció lo suficientemente destacable como para fotografiarla... pero es que era... arughf).
La carne era simplemente deliciosa. Al morder se desacía en pedazos pequeños, de lo tierna que estaba. Podías quitarle el pan (crujiente y también de calidad, se notaba) y los ingredientes extra, que en mi caso eran queso, lechuga, tomate, cebolla y bacon en taquitos pequeños, y comerte sólo el trozo de carne a bocados sin ninguna salsa, y estaba tremendamente sabroso. Prueba a hacer lo mismo con una hamburguesa de alguno de los restaurantes de comida rápida que tenemos aquí. La carne sabe a plástico quemado.
El caso es que si no le quitas los ingredientes (obviamente no se los quité jajaja) y le sumas a eso la salsa barbacoa, auténtica americana que llevaba la hamburguesa, y las patatas fritas también recién hechas con patatas de verdad (no ese sucedáneo de patatas congeladas que te cuelan en muchos sitios), tienes un auténtico platazo de calidad gourmet.
De precio no estaba tampoco nada mal si tenemos en cuenta que como siempre e agua con hielo la ponía el restaurante y el plato era muy generoso y de calidad envidiable. Vamos mucho mejor que ir a cualquier restaurante de comida rápida, eso seguro. Le puse un 10 y pasó a mi TOP 1 hamburguesas. Y ahí sigue (a no ser claro, que mi recuerdo esté difuso ya...). En mi TOP 3 las dos siguientes serían la que comí en Katowice, Polonia, en un pequeño local especialista también en hamburguesas y una que comí hace poco de carne de Buey en Villajoyosa, Alicante.
Os dejo con algunos precios orientativos del Rosie's para que os hagáis una idea, pero os adelanto que son geniales y más teniendo en cuenta el servicio, el ambiente, y dónde está situado el local, al lado del precioso Lago Tahoe. Sólo pongo los platos "estrella" porque hay muchísimos más.
Como ya he dicho, para mí este local se merece un diez por su conjunto. Fenomenal.
