Erasmus Experience in Zaragoza, Spain by Alexandra
Why did you choose to go to Zaragoza, Spain?
I chose Zaragoza because the Master from UNIZAR where I was accepted has a multidisciplinary program, it is thought entirely in English and also because the Institute of Nanotechnology INA from this city is very well known in Spain.
What is the student lifestyle like in Zaragoza?
Students in Zaragoza have many opportunities to experience both high levels of academia and leisure activities. From a very well equipped laboratory you can jump to the famous "Casco" for a refreshing night out with your friends or you can visit the historical monuments all around the city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Zaragoza to other students?
I recommend this city for any student who likes to learn and to experience a new culture at the same time.
What is the food like?
The food is delicious! Local dishes are tasty but you can try every kind of Spanish dish.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Zaragoza?
To find a good accommodation was not very easy, as I didn't speak Spanish when I arrived. Groups on Facebook, friends, internet websites are some options that one could use for finding a nice place to live.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available in the University?
Learning Spanish might not be very complicated for people that already speak a language that has latin roots. But others don't have to panic, there are classes available for foreigners at different levels.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Zaragoza from your city?
The easiest way for me to travel to Zaragoza is by plane. Although I could travel by coach, it is time consuming and the difference that I have to pay for a plane ticket is not so much.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Zaragoza?
There are plenty of places: from Irish pubs to dance clubs and hardcore rock places. Name a genre and you will get it.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Zaragoza?
I personally prefer in London bar (there are good and cheap sandwiches), Davia is a nice place with very friendly people and delicious food; depending on the kind of food you like there is a great number of restaurants you could visit.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I liked very much all the parks (Parque Grande especially), Basilica del Pilar, Corrida, el Tubo, calle Alfonso, Palacio Aljaferia, and so on. The city is rich with historical buildings.
Is there any other advice that you could give to future students who are going to Zaragoza?
Try to learn some basic Spanish before you come here, search for accommodation before you get here and just have fun!
