Finally, it has arrived, eaaaating in Zagreb

The post that we have all been waiting for about Zagreb has arrived, yes, it is the post of... WHERE TO EAT IN ZAGREB. I have been getting tired of exploring this aspect, this city and the light-dark that it has. Let me explain, my budget was not logically unlimited and although I found myself among lovely surprises, the kitchen quality was getting out of hand. Anyway, I enjoyed it a lot and there are locals of all types. Also, I am easily convinced. The restaurants in Zagreb reduce their menus to Croatian and Italian food but the offer is slowly but surely diversified thanks to the opening of Japanese cuisine establishments and other countries. Between the cheaper ones I found, you could say that the Skalinska located on a hill that goes up to the cathedral, this restaurant is very popular for it's Italian food and its wonderful outdoor terrace. The menu presents the whole range of usual pizzas and salads that will dazzle vegetarians. The risotto rations are huge, ideal for those who are hungry.

The Rubelj which is great, there are several scattered and this is one of the many Rubelj in town. It's in Dolac and it serves good portions decevapi (small spicy sausage of minced beef, lamb or pork) to take away.

Valls Aurea is more typical and very Croatian. This authentic Croatian restaurant is always full at lunchtime because it serves one of the best homemade specialities of the city. Try one of the Dalmatian dishes par excellence, the pasticada (stewed beef with wine and spices), or the slightly spicy beans, both can be accompanied with a red wine from the house. It is right next to the lower end of the funicular that I mentioned earlier. The TipTop I loved for its waiters, who dressed in old socialist uniforms, present a scowl and serious face that always ends up turning into laughter. But the best thing is its excellent risotto with dàlmata. Every day they have a la carte menu; Thursdays are a delight: the octopus brodetde (red octopus stew, garlic and aromatic herbs). It is owned by an islander from Korcula. Very salacious.

Ivica i Marica is based on the story by Hansel and Gretel from the Grimm brothers, this small restaurant and pastry shop is reminiscent of the gingerbread cookie house that appears in the story, with waiters dressed in traditional costumes. It is not exactly vegetarian, but there are many dishes of vegetables and fish, in addition to meat dishes. The sweets have a very good reputation. I have not tried them.

The Pivnica Stari Fijaker is more expensive than the previous ones that I have mentioned. Once crowned the gastronomic offer of Zagreb, and its interior design, which highlights the sidewalks, wood and white tablecloths, still retains a certain subdued sobriety. In the kitchen, tradition dictates, so sausages, beans and strukli (fresh cheese fritters) will not be missing.

The Kaptolska Klet is a pleasant restaurant, it is comfortable for everyone: whether you are going alone or in the company of a bustling group of backpackers. There is a huge outdoor terrace and an indoor dining room reminiscent of a brewery with its cheerful lighting. Although it is famous for its Zagreb specialities, such as grilled meats and homemade sausages, it also serves good dishes of grilled vegetables and vegetable pie.

The Pod Grickim Topom is hidden in a tree-lined path as it descends from the upper town, this restaurant exudes a different charm and also has an outdoor terrace where good Croatian specialities are served, which are essentially carnivorous. It is a fantastic place to shelter from the snow in winter or eat under the stars in summer. And I will tell you two places to eat if you have economic power, I only ate in one of them. On the one hand, the Dubravkin Putque is in a wooded area to the northwest of the urban centre, this upscale restaurant is successful for its bright and modern interior design and its outstanding fish specialities. The owner is from Dubrovnik and the kitchen is inspired by Dalmatian cuisine, with comorisottoy starters and unblemished main courses of grilled fish. On the other side, Zinfandel's Restaurant is brutally expensive but with the tastiest and most innovative dishes in the city. I ate.... in the first, the second is just hearsay, hahaha.

Regarding the food, let's call it fast, we have in the main commercial street of the city, fast food establishments and cheap bars with snacks. For example, elPekarnica Dora is a bakery that opens 24 hours and saved my ass more than once. It is close to the train station. Or the Vincek bakery that serves the best ice cream in the city. At the beginning of the summer, the long queues that form attest to its popularity.

If you want to take some recollection about ñam ñam I would recommend the Gavrilovic where you can find delicious local cheeses, smoked meat and sausages. I do not think I left anything. Greetings people.
