My Experience in York

I had the chance to live in York for two months from May to June 2017. I undertook an internship at one of the hotels in the city.

York is an amazing city! I recommend it to everyone. There are so many places to discover, and it is very easy to get around on foot so it is perfect for students. It is surrounded by the old city walls, a great place to go on a nice walk and discover the city when you first arrive.

My Experience in York

It has a very rich history and there are plenty of museums, each one more interesting and interactive than the next. If you want to discover its history I recommend purchasing the York Pass which costs £50 for two days. This allows you to visit all the monuments and museums that the city has to offer. It is a great deal as most of the museums cost about £10. The pass will allow you to discover the viking culture at the Jorvik centre, the history of chocolate at Chocolate Story Factory and also the famous York Minster, all within the space of two days. All the museums are very modern and the staff are friendly and attentive. The majority of tourist spots are accessible to those who have an average grasp of English.

My Experience in York

The city boasts stunning architecture and is full of cute little spots to grab a cup of coffee. It is easy to walk along the river and then head to the park to eat an ice-cream. You can also go jogging in town between 8am-9am in the morning, few shops are open and you can see the city wake up, it is nice and rather calming.

My Experience in York

In terms of shops, there are loads! Primark, Pandora and other well-known brands. Furthermore, there is a street which is very well-known amongst Harry Potter fans known as the Shambles. This street inspired the alleyways in the films. A Harry Potter shop has recently been opened, "The shop that must not be named"

My Experience in York

Finally, the town is very safe, I never felt scared going home alone, day or night. It's all very "safe" and well-organised. It is truly a city that I recommend to all lovers of pedestrianised, green cities. It has a wonderful atmosphere.
