What is it like to live in Wroclaw? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I have been to Wroclaw on two different occasions. Firstly, on a purely touristic purpose and the other one, to attend a mathematics conference.

The first thing I noticed about the city is its train station. It was designed with elegance and beauty. The city is well-planned centred on Odra river. There are prominent places of interest along the river banks; there's the two universities and the Old Town. Going further in the city, there are enjoyable parks and garden (ogrod), e. g. Ogrod Japonski with the beautiful fontaine or fontanna.

In the Old Town alone, there are a lot of surprises.

Would you recommend the city and the university of Wroclaw to other students?

Yes, the city is highly-recommended. It is multi-cultural. If you have an opportunity to visit Prague and nearby cities, Wroclaw is not too far away.

What is the student lifestyle like in Wroclaw?

I visited Wroclaw to attend a meeting of mathematicians. I found student lifestyle in Wroclaw free, mystical and interesting. Interesting in such a way that the student is free to discover things which stimulates intellectual pursuit or things that might be off-topic, e. g. history and architecture.

For me, Wroclaw is the home of a many famous mathematicians who created and pioneered the mathematics of today.

How much does it cost to live in Wroclaw?

Compared with most polish cities, Wroclaw is expensive. Since I live and study full-time in Lublin, the city is considered expensive (comparable with Warsaw).

Compared with many European cities, Wroclaw is a bonus to travelers and visitors.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Wroclaw? Is there any advice you can give?

It depends on the purpose of your visit and tourist season. There are available hostels for active lifestyle (backpackers) and high-end accommodation for family get-togethers and prestigious events and meetings.

If you are visiting on your own, make sure to book in advance.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There are a lot of favorite dishes. Traditional polish food abounds. American-style fastfood chains and restaurants are present in many parts of the city.

What places would you recommend visiting in Wroclaw?

A visit around the two campuses is recommended. I immediately felt the mystical nature of its campuses. A "nice" river cruise made me understand and learn more about the city.

Some of the most interesting places I visited in Wroclaw: Grunwaldzki bridge, Ogrod Japonski, Old Town, The National Museum and Most Pomorski.

I enjoyed the beautiful castle, like Wroclaw train station, the street fire-eater and circus performers.

Is it good to eat out in Wroclaw? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Yes. I enjoyed the dinner at Radisson Blu hotel and dinner in the streets of Wroclaw.

What advice would you give future students heading to Wroclaw?

Not so much. I just hope they are enjoying their time in Wroclaw.
