Erasmus in Wroclaw
Why did you choose to go to Wroclaw, Poland?
I choose Poland for my Erasmus experience because it is a country you can fully live in it. First of all, I've chosen Wroclaw because of the faculty. I've found a lot of interesting subjects and topics which I would never have a chance to listen to them at my home faculty. Also, they are offering a chance for students to attend subjects from various faculty so you're free to make your own schedule with lectures you find interesting and important.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
My scholarship was enough to cover living costs like rental and bills.
What is the student lifestyle like in Wroclaw?
The presence of so many students in the city makes you feel at home and you never know who you are going to meet, in the city, at faculty, offices and that is the most thrilling thing. You are meeting people from all over the world and you are sharing your experience, culture, language, etc. Student lifestyle is exciting and interesting. You always have something to do, like polish movies in independent cinemas on English subtitles, shows on theatre, funny games like laser tag, adventure park and many more... and of course a lot of pubs with crafts beer, discos and clubs!
Would you recommend the city and the University of Wroclaw to other students?
Yes. I recommend this city to other students and especially for those who still haven't decided which city in Poland to choose. From the first day, it has been a fascinanting experience.
What is the food like?
Polish food is special because they have their own spices, flavoring and adding different side dishes but it's interesting to try, especially Pierogi - you can find them everywhere filled with different ingredients.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Wroclaw?
It was a little bit hard to find the right accommodation because many agencies are taking a lot of money for their help so you are on your own. But you can find different groups on facebook and many polish pages with adds.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The Polish language is a little hard to learn but take a chance and take a semestral course at faculty (it's free of charge). At least you are going to learn the most important things to communicate during your stay. Also, the university is offering different language course which you have a chance to attend.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Wroclaw?
Nightlife in Wroclaw is offering a lot, especially for Erasmus students so you can go out to many different clubs and pubs. There is an Erasmus organization which has a facebook page so you will be informed about everything.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Wroclaw is offering interesting cultural sites. There are a lot of beautiful churches and bell towers, historical buildings, museums and many more. There are also many cultural sites near Wroclaw which you can visit traveling by tram or bus.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Wroclaw in the future?
Get to know city and country as much as you can and the best thing for doing that is to travel. Tickets for train and buses aren't expensive so you can afford it. Just be open, relax and spontaneous and share your experience and hang out with your colleagues!
