Erasmus Experience in Wroclaw, Poland by Myrto
Why did you choose to go to Wroclaw, Poland?
The first reason would be the fact that it's so cheap to live in that city. It's also a great location to travel and a beautiful city full of exciting things to do and amazing people!
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
The scholarship lasts for 5 months and the amount of money I received was around 1, 900€.
What is the student lifestyle like in Wroclaw?
It's carefree, fun, adventurous and full of potential. There's always something new to try and every day is different and exciting.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Wroclaw to other students?
I would certainly recommend the city as well as the University of Wroclaw.
What is the food like?
I'm not a big fan of local cuisine but this is just a matter of preference. There's a lot of meat, in most dishes, onions and oil, but the city offers a lot of options so one can try the local food but also go for international cuisine, like Indian food, Italian, Greek and more.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Wroclaw?
Not at all, I live in the dorms so it was a simple online form that I had to fill and the monthly rent is quite low.
How much does it cost to live in Wroclaw?
It depends on one's habits and lifestyle but it's generally quite affordable, with the prices for most products being very low.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The Polish language is not an easy one, but the university offers free courses for exchange students, which I recommend attending. It's rather useful to be able to say a few sentences to people who don't speak English.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Wroclaw from your city?
For me, the best solution was to fly from Athens to Prague and take a bus to Wroclaw.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Wroclaw?
There's a lot of options and the nightlife can be crazy fun.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Wroclaw?
It depends on one's preferences, again. Google maps might be more helpful in this case. There's a lot of restaurants in the city centre that offer different kinds of dishes.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
The whole city is a cultural site. Don't miss the festivals that take place in Wroclaw.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Wroclaw in the future?
Be open to making friends and trying out cool stuff. Go to parties, meet people, invite them to hang out with you, chill on the student's island, travel, take pictures... this is going to be an amazing, extraordinary, life-changing experience. I've been in Wrocław for 2 months and I've never been happier.

I guess what's deemed as pros and cons largely depends on each individual. I have explained what I think about Wroclaw and what my experience was like in the article above. Let me know if you want me to be more specific about some part of it.
