Why did you choose to go to Wroclaw, Poland?

Wroclaw is very well located in the middle of Europe, making it easy to travel to the neighbouring countries. The cost of living is low and the city is simply beautiful!

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I received my scholarship two days before departing to Wroclaw. I received around 746€.

What is the student lifestyle like in Wroclaw?

It's like every other country, except everyone speaks Polish and sometimes you find yourself lost. You simply cannot avoid it!

I strongly advise to go to every party/event organised by ESN. While most parties in Wroclaw are fun, I always prefer those of ESN. They are more alive, colourful and friendly.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Wroclaw to other students?

Indeed. Come to Wroclaw, you'll definitely enjoy it :)

What is the food like?

It's very good and cheap, especially if you buy it a supermarket called Biedronka. If you're coming to Wroclaw, you must try pierogi (kind of raviolis with meat, chicken, cheese or other fillings) and drink Piast, the local beer.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Wroclaw?

I stayed in a residence. I only had to apply for a room and wait for the school's answer.

How much does it cost to live in Wroclaw?

Bus/Tram ticket costs about 1. 5 zl (€0. 34) for students and 3. 00 zl (€0. 70) for everybody else

Rent of a place in residence is €81 for a triple room and €88 for a double room.

Beer is around €1. 60.

Some months €150 is more than enough, especially if you don't party too much and cook most of your meals.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

No, it's very complicated. I'm still not sure if I say "good morning" in the right way.

I studied at PWr (Wrocław University of Science and Technology) and there are courses of German and Polish available for Erasmus Students.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Wroclaw from your city?

Ryanair or TAP flights. There is no direct flight to Wroclaw from Porto, so you have to have at least one change. Sometimes TAP can be cheaper if you have to take a 20 kg luggage, as the price for the two Ryanair flights is higher.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Wroclaw?

Pasaż niepolda and Chupito in the Market Square (rynek). Pasaż niepolda is a street full of clubs and bars to spend the night and Chupito is a bar with a lot of original shots of all kinds of alcohol.

But if you just want to hang out, any bar at Market Square will be good for you.

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Wroclaw?

Not really.. I cooked most of my meals, but there are very good restaurants at the Market Square.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

-Market Square (all of it! )

-Church of St. Elizabeth

-Ogrod Japonski (the Japanese garden)

-Hala Stulecia (close to Ogrod Japonski)

-Wroclaw Cathedral

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Wroclaw in the future?

Don't be afraid to try new things and I hope you will enjoy your stay in Wroclaw :)
