Erasmus Experience in Wrocław, Poland by A
Why did you choose to go to Wrocław, Poland?
To have a new experience.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I went for 4 months and I got €300 a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Wrocław?
It's impressive! It's incredible!
Would you recommend the city and the university of Wrocław to other students?
Yes, absolutely!
What is the food like there?
The food is good, it's a bit greasy, but it's good for the cold weather in winter! Don't miss out on trying all of the different soups and spiced meats they have there! And the zapiecanca to round off a night out!
Was it difficult to find accommodation in Wrocław?
Yes, it was a bit difficult, but the university helped us all out a lot! If you have the chance, contact the university and they'll help you!
How much does it cost to live in Wrocław?
Between rent on a flat, internet, partying (5 days a week), groceries to live off of (I'm no chef), the occasional trip, transport, etc. it costs more or less €550 - 600 a month.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the university?
The language is a bit difficult, but you'll get by in the end! And at the end of the day, everyone speaks English (the young people, of course, so at least). I didn't go on any Polish course, although I wouldn't have minded doing so.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Wrocław from your home city?
Well, the way I got here, and the cheapest way, is to fly to Katowice from Madrid an then I took a train to Wrocław.
It's the cheapest way to go, but not the most convenient, since the timings are a bit complicated and there's a lot of bulk and weight... It all depends on each situation.
Where would you recommend for a night out in Wrocław?
It doesn't matter, the party will find you! It depends which day you go out on, some places will have more going on than others... I usually went out in the centre, there are loads of places there! If you go to Felicitá, don't forget to say hello to our Simeone!
And to eat in Wrocław? What are some of your favourite places to go?
I usually ate at home, since that's where I spent most of my time, besides it saves money, although going out to eat is very cheap and the food is very good! I'd recommend any of the hidden or shabby-looking restaurants, they serve the best food there, or the fancier restaurants! It'll never cost more than €40 per person!
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
It's a beautiful, intimate, great, colourful, intuitive, and it has a personal charm that very few cities have!
Do you have any advice for students coming to Wroclaw in the future?
Don't think twice about making Polish friends, they're very open people and will know where to take you better than anyone else, and they'll be able to teach you the basics of Polish! And, as friends, they're priceless!
