My first month: Washington

For me, this was perhaps one of the most memorable trips I ever took.

On the 24th July, the Dorney Park staff organised a trip to the capital of the United States. I was way too excited as I had seen so many movies in which this city appeared, as well as in the Simpsons episodes, and I couldn't miss this oportunity.

It was a very hot day, but I didn't mind. They dropped us barely next to the Capitol, which happened to be restoring and from there you could realize that the distances between the monuments were enormous, even though you had a vision of almost all of them. I don't even remember if I actually sat down.

The most important things are located within a big avenue, but it takes more than two and a half hours to go from one side to the other. I remember everything as I expected it to be: HUGE.

I fell in love with the Obelisque (Washington Monument) and the White House, just in front of it (well, "in front" means like half an hour in Washington distance). We couldn't get too close to it because President Obama was on his way, but even a glimpse was totally paid off. We even spent some time feeding the squirrels that were playing under the trees in the surroundings.

When we finally got to the Lincoln Memorial I felt a teardrop in my t-shirt (the vintage one I bought in Philly, btw). It was awesome. I was overwhelmed.

Everything in Washington is related to the US history: a memorial to a president, a memorial to a war episode... They have an enormous respect for their warriors. That's something I really liked, and I thought that we all should learn a bit about that.

There were some special monuments that caught my eye. For example, the Korean War Memorial or the Martin Luther King Memorial. What an expressive one!

We also passed by the Smithsonian and few art museums. We had lunch in a McDonald's near the Capitol while we waited for the bus to drive us back to Allentown. And lastly I have to say that the burgers in the States are much bigger than the ones we have in Spain. After such a long walk, we almost cried when we had the first bite.

I wish I had had more time to explore the city, but it was such a great day and I had a lot of fun!
