Valencia during Las Fallas

Fun and culture: Valencia during Las Fallas

Hi to everyone! In this post I would like to share with you my visit to Valencia city: I went to this year's fair of Las Fallas! Besides just visiting the historical centre, enjoying and relaxing on the beach, if you one day go to Valencia, you can't miss the opportunity to taste its delicious gastronomy.

Typical valencian dishes

Gastronomy of this region is simply spectacular, because, you can't just taste the famous paella, you also have to enjoy the travel in order to taste other typical dishes like "a banda" rice or rice with crust, fideos or rice "arrosejats", or the "bajoques forcides" also known as peppers stuffed with rice. Regarding desserts, I suggest you to taste el arnadí, which is made of almonds and pumpkin. Of course, during Fallas it is nearly mandatory to taste the delicious buñuelos (which is fried pastry) with chocolate. At last, something that you have to take yes or yes is the delicious horchata de chufa.

The fair of Las Fallas

I had the opportunity to be in Valencia during the fair of Las Fallas this year and to know at close hand one of the most important celebration in Spain. The truth is that I really wanted to and I have to say that this fair is not going to let anyone indifferent.

The “mascletás" (firework displays)

This fair is basically distinguished by noise, colours and fire. Las Fallas start with a “mascletá" in Ayuntamiento's square (very near ti Xátiva station). This "mascletás" are very noising, which have to start the Fallera Mayor with the famous sentence: "Senyor pirotècnic, pot començar la mascletà” (“Mr Pyrotechnic, “mascletá” can start”).

“Castells de focs artificials”(

Some elements which can never miss in Las Fallas are fireworks or, as Valencian people usually call them, "castillos" ("castells de focs artificials"); and light shows, that you can see from the city centre in specific hours of the night during the fair.

The "falleros" and "falleras"

Of course, in Las Fallas there are a lot of processions and flowers' offerings made by falleros and falleras, each of them wearing traditional suits.

Monuments of Las Fallas and the "cremà"

And, in conclusion, Las Fallas' fair closes with the "Nit of the Cremà", that means, the night during which the monuments "falleros" get burnt. This is, with no doubt, the most iconic moment of Las Fallas. I saw a lot of monuments in the centre of Valencia and, of course, many of them made the various fallas or rocks of Manises town, and clearly a lot of them were beautiful... destroying them was really a pity!

At least one time in life you have to go to Valencia during Las Fallas!

Me, who don't like firecrackers, really didn't enjoy it, but I have to admit that it's an amazing fair, during which you can meet a lot of people and enjoy a traditional moment that you can't see any day.
