What is it like to live in Utrecht? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Utrecht is a real student city. The average age is around 30, so there are living a lot of young people. The city center is old and historical. It's really beautiful, with canals and a lot of great little bars and restaurants. There are also a lot of student places where you can eat cheap.

What is the student lifestyle like in Utrecht?

The student lifestyle in Utrecht is awesome. You can meet young people everywhere. Go for some coffee in the city center or meet eachother in the old library for studying. If you want to party, there are always places where you can go.

How much does it cost to live in Utrecht?

The rent is around 350, 00 euros.

I pay around 250, 00 euro on groceries.

Going out is not that expensive because there are a lot of student places where drinks are cheap.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Utrecht? Is there any advice you can give?

To find a room is pretty hard and the rent is expensive. There is SSH, this is an organisation that helps (international) students to find a room.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

There is a typical sandwich in Utrecht. It's called Broodje Mario. (Bread with cheese, salami and peppers). You can buy this at 2 Italian bread shops in town.

Typical dutch food is Stroopwafels and Drop and, of course, Cheese. You can buy this everywhere.

What places would you recommend visiting in Utrecht?

I would recommend to visit the DOM. It's one of the oldest towers in town. You can have an awesome view at the skyline of Utrecht (first you need to walk a lot of steps but who cares! ).

Is it good to eat out in Utrecht? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

If you want to eat out cheap, Utrecht is your place. At Gras van de buren you can have lunch for 5, 00 euros. You can choose your sandwich for example with carpaccio and fresh mint tea with honey. This is one of my favourite if i want to go out for lunch.

There are also a lot of nice coffee places where you can drink coffee or tea and talk with each other.

If you want to go out for dinner you can go to really good places with really nice food. You pay more for these kind of places. If you want to go out for dinner and pay less there are a lot of student places where you can eat. Always bring your student card.

Is the nightlife good in Utrecht? Where is good to go?

The nightlife is good in Utrecht. There are a lot of bars where you can have beers with your friends. If you like to dance or go to a concert, you can go to Tivoli.

What advice would you give future students heading to Utrecht?

I would recommend to go to ESN Utrecht. They arrange a lot of great activitees for exchange students. And last but not least: Buy a bike! That's typical dutch!
