What is it like to live in Utrecht? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Utrecht is close to the perfect place for students to live in. Every single person you meet will be able to speak English (some better than others), certainly the ones at University. It is not too big, yet there is a lot to visit and to do, so you will never get tired of the city. Utrecht is perfect for wandering around in the center.

What is the student lifestyle like in Utrecht?

The student lifestyle is very relaxed overall. However, with parties going on almost every day, there is enough to choose from if you want to have a good time.

How much does it cost to live in Utrecht?

Utrecht, as the rest of the Netherlands, is quite expensive to live in. Houses (a. k. a. small rooms with shared areas) are around 400 € per month. Moreover, the food, especially when going out for dinner, is not cheap.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Utrecht? Is there any advice you can give?

As a lot of students come to Utrecht every year, it can be difficult to find a (good) room. There are some organisations (SSH, for example) who can help you out a lot, plus you are likely to get a better price. Be aware to register on time, though, as the waiting lists can be long! (One year is recommended)

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Because of the many different cultures living in Utrecht, you can eat everything you want. The basic dutch meal is very simple, but there are many places focused on foreign gastronomy (italian, asian, etc. ).

What places would you recommend visiting in Utrecht?

I wouldn't recommend a specific place, just wander around in the city center, along the canals, which are beautiful during day time as well as night time.

Is it good to eat out in Utrecht? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

As I mentioned before, there are a lot of options. There are, in fact, so many different places that you can go to a different place each time you go out for dinner. My favorite places are located at the Oudegracht.

Is the nightlife good in Utrecht? Where is good to go?

There are some clubs in Utrecht which are worth visiting. As everyone has different preferences, you might as well check them all out yourself! I like the new club located at Oudegracht, which is called Basis and has a (deep) house vibe to it.

What advice would you give future students headed to Utrecht?

As settling down in Utrecht might be stressful, think of the good times ahead of you. Once you are fully settled you will have an amazing experience for sure!
