Erasmus Experience in Utrecht, Netherlands by Lora
Why did you choose to go to Utrecht, Netherlands?
I chose Utrecht as I found out that the city is predominantly a university city, so with an abundance of students. I immediately knew I had found the perfect place for crazy parties and an escape from the stress and strains surrounding me, when not studying, of course.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I cannot answer to this question, because I do not have a scholarship and thus, I do not receive any help my living costs.
What is the student lifestyle like in Utrecht?
You can go on relaxing canal rides, bike around the outer lying countryside, or wander past the cool little cafés and view some stunning architecture. Although you very shortly run out of things to do here during the day, if you were looking for a place to work abroad in Europe, it would be a great choice.
There are lots of little basement clubs and most places have a free entry, and the whole city seems to have a really cool alternative vibe at night. During the day there is also a very tranquil feel to the city.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Utrecht to other students?
In my opinion, Utrecht is the Netherlands’ most charming city and I would recommend it to every student I meet, who wonders where to plan his or hers Erasmus destination.
What is the food like?
The Dutch lack a cuisine of their own and consequently rely on the rest of the world for tasty food. Utrecht is no exception and it offers a wide array of ethnic restaurants and eateries for all palates. Personally, the only Dutch food I like to eat are all types of sweets and desserts.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Utrecht?
Finding a place to stay in Utrecht is a very challenging occupation, because people exceed free places to live. Nevertheless, I think that a few days of wandering around the city to find your accommodation is worth everything else that you are going to experience afterwards.
How much does it cost to live in Utrecht?
Utrecht itself is exceptionally cheap for Western Europe.
