What is it like to live in Turku? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
The weather is changeable, the nature is beautiful, everything is very expensive, but people here are nice.
Yes, it's a comfortable and convenient place to live. The city has very good bus transportation, I mean, you know exactly when the next bus will come although the most frequent bus runs every 7 minutes.
What is the student lifestyle like in Turku?
Most of the time the students are quiet, but in the summer time they drink and party a lot.
How much does it cost to live in Turku?
In general, it's a very expensive place compared to other continental countries in Europe, especially the food.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in Turku? Is there any advice you can give?
It depends. If you try to rent a shared apartment offered by TYS, then it's easy. But if you want to find a single apartment or smaller apartment you like, that's really difficult.
If you want to rent a single apartment or a smaller apartment in the private market, usually you have to sign a one-year contract.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
The food is ok, although some people think it's horrible. But as long as you get used to it, it's fine then. My favorite dish is the smoked salmon.
What places would you recommend visiting in Turku?
The Turku Castle, handcraft museum and its archipelago.
Is it good to eat out in Turku? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
It's good as long as you pay but the restaurants are expensive. I don't know exactly where to go because I haven't tried many restaurants. But if I have to recommend one: Mami along the river.
Is the nightlife good in Turku? Where is good to go?
I seldom live a nightlife, but I know people's nightlife style is just drink, drink and drink a lot of beers.
Well, Turku is a small city and the good place to go is always the city center area where you also can find many bars.
What advice would you give future students heading to Turku?
Just prepare enough money and keep in mind everything is expensive here. But don't worry about your safety because it's a very safe place to live.
