What is it like to live in Turku? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Turku is a nice city to live in, very suitable for students. I can definitely recommend it.

What is the student lifestyle like in Turku?

Turku has a very vivid student life with lots of happenings and parties.

How much does it cost to live in Turku?

Finland can seem quite expensive at first for foreigners. It is not the cheapest place to live, but Turku is still cheaper than for example Helsinki. But for students I wouldn’t recommend eating a lot out...

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Turku? Is there any advice you can give?

No, and the university offers good apartments near university, which are quite affordable.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Traditional Finnish food is usually quite mild-tasting. Meatballs and mashed potatoes for example are quite popular, as is salmon and rye bread.

What places would you recommend visiting in Turku?

The island "Ruissalo" is a beautiful place to discover the Finnish nature. Turku castle is a good place to learn about Turku’s history. Also Naantali is a beautiful little town very near to Turku, and it has a very nice old town.

Is it good to eat out in Turku? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

There are some very nice restaurants in Turku. For fine-dining "Kaskis" is one of the best, but quite expensive. For vegetarians and vegans I’d recommend "Kuori”. A bit more affordable places you can find a lot in the city centre.

Is the nightlife good in Turku? Where is good to go?

There is a good nightlife in Turku, especially for students. A lot of student parties are held at Night Club Marilyn, but my favourite bar is Dynamo, which has a very nice ambiance.

What advice would you give future students heading to Turku?

Get your apartment in time. In Finland you always have to have your ID when buying alcohol, cigarettes, or going to a bar.
