I want to find a house NOW!

A year in Turin!

Why did you choose Turin, Italy?

For the language and the chance to ski!

How long was the placement? How much was your grant?

9 months, 300 euros a month approximately.

What´s the student life like in Turin?

Pretty great because it's a big city, so there are loads of students, but it´s not of the best in Italy.

Would you recommend the city to other students?

Yes, but there are a lot of universities in Turin - mine was the UNITO and I loved it, especially the exam system.

How´s the food?

Delicious.

How did you find accommodation?

Through the Foundazione Falciola.

How much is Uni accommodation? And private accommodation?

300 - 350 for a regular room. 200-250 for a double room in the centre.

What about the language? Did you do any classes at the uni?

Super easy to learn, I did intermediate level classes when I first got there, because the beginner is too easy for Spaniards.

What´s the cheapest way to get to Turin from your city

By plane, with Ryanair.

What places would you recommend for going out in Turin?

All the bars and clubs around Valentino, Lapsus (Erasmus legend), XO (another legend, on Tuesdays) and people love Muracci but it´s not for me.

Can you give your favourite eateries in Turin?

For appetizers La Drogheria, El Shore, El Lobelix for around 7-8 euros. And for something a bit cheaper when it´s getting to the end of the month Café Cesare (delicious) El Lab or El Biberón on Sant´Anselmo street (great mojitos).

For a sit down meal, (something you´ll do little of unless your parents come to visit) Soup&Go, Fratelli la Buffala, Kirkuk Kebab (this is not a typical drunk kebab shop, it´s a really cool place and you´re seated on the floor around a table); and the famous giant pizzas on Via Garibaldi (don´t remember the name of the restaurant). Amazing, cheap pizzas at Prezzemolo and Finocchio on Via Nizza, also at Eataly (worth trying, very cool bar) and one that´s not very well known but is one of the best I´ve been to (many times of course) Dausin (on Via Goito, 9) that specializes in Piedmont food.

What about cultural sights?

Everything in the centre, the arches, the historical buildings and all the piazzas which there are a ton of and they´re all pretty. Go up the Basilica di Superga one sunny day, you won´t believe the views! The Castello di Rivoli i Moncallieri is close to Turin and it's a beautiful trip, especially at night. And you can´t miss a trip to the Sacra di Sant Michelle in the middle of the Alps (but go in May or June, otherwise it´s too icy)

Any advice to give to future students in Turin?

For those that are into skiing, rent the equipment as soon as possible so that there are a few models to choose from (I got some in October and returned it in June) it costs 100 euros for the whole year for skis and 120 euros for a snowboard in Jollysport.

If you like to climb you should prepare and bring a whole team because in the city theres plenty of rock climbing walls, and within the region there are a ton of climbing sites, of all levels. Basically with any mountain sports you have a ton of options.

Look for an apartment early because it´s difficult to find single rooms (if you want a double room you won´t have a problem).
