Experience in Tallinn University, Estonia. by Mariliis
Generally, what is Tallinn University like?
Tallinn University is a very compact and good university in my opinion. Situated in the centre of Tallinn, it is easily approachable also. Tallinn University went through a renewal, erecting 3 new buildings in the campus, which is very well brought together and organized now. On the whole, it is a peaceful and devoted university with one of the best tutors in Estonia.
Side note: the characteristics' rating on top of these questions; there's supposed to be college* not collage I believe.
What are the facilities like?
As I am studying in Tallinn University Baltic Film and Media School and the new building was finished just in 2012, so the facilities and equipment there is really top-notch. As the homepage states, they offer "free shooting and post-production equipment, studio space and production support", free post-production including also a computer class full of Mac desktops that is basically open 24/7. What comes to other faculties, I am more than certain that the facilities are good there as well.
What are the tutors like?
On the whole, the tutors are very professional and well approachable. Since Estonia is a very electronic country then its no problem what so ever to get a e-mail response even the same day.
Are the lessons easy in Tallinn University?
Depends. I would say rather easier than difficult but if one does not keep up with the work constantly, it may get troublesome. Also, since the range of different faculties and subjects varies strongly, I don't think a valid opinion is to be given to this question.
Does the University organize activities? What are they like?
Yes, Tallinn University has a very active students' council/representation, and they try to organize many different events throughout the year. For example, there has been parades (opening of the school year), singles' parties, flash mobs, alternative lectures and other fun activities that have been brought to pass by the students' Culture Club. It's a shame tho, that not many Estonians participate in these events; there is always a sufficient amount of people but these activities aren't that popular. But, when you are a foreigner/studying there with Erasmus program, it's going to be a lot of fun 'cause you'll be interacting will all of the other international students a lot and they have many activities planned, as always.
Do you think the teaching is of a high quality?
Yes, I believe the teachers in Tallinn University really know their stuff and give their best to pass it on to the students.
Are there any stories you can share?
Sorry, no, I can't really think of any now.
