Experience in Tallinn University, Estonia by Blessing
Generally, what is Tallinn University like?
Tallinn University is a multicultural study environment and also a great citadel of learning. The university comprises of students and staff from all walks of life, which makes networking, psychological and academic development quite easy.
The first thing that most strikes every student when they enter a university is the university's staff as their actions set the tone for the rest of the university. Tallinn University staff has a pervasive helpful attitude as they are always willing to provide students with support.
The university parades well-qualified lecturers and professors that are capable of imparting knowledge to students and education in Tallinn University comes at an equally good cost which will give you a run for your money.
What are the facilities like?
Tallinn University facilities to my taste was quite excellent. The university has well-built buildings with well-resourced classrooms, lavatories, learning centers, libraries and cafeterias which of course were big enough, easy to locate and use.
What are the tutors like?
The tutors were good at what they were paid to do, and they were quite friendly/intercultural in their teaching approach.
Are the lessons easy in Tallinn University?
Lessons in Tallinn University were relatively easy because apart from the compulsory courses students were to take every semester, the university also gave us the opportunity to choose from some elective courses that appeal to us.
It was also easy because lecturers made course reading materials available and the university library and E-library were well stocked with books and journals etc in case student needs further research on any lesson they were taught in class.
Does the University organise activities? If so, what are they like?
Of course, the university is a dynamic one. The activities had been wow and interesting judging from the few one's I was privileged to attend. It has been fun, educative, entertaining as well as informative.
The ones I really enjoyed was the Erasmus welcome party, performance by the university choir and other activities organised by clubs and societies in the university.
Do you think there is a good quality of teaching?
My answer to this question is positive. Staff quality (lecturers and professors) is the most obvious important factor in any university that determines the quality of teaching students receive there by influencing student engagement and academic achievement.
The quality of teaching is not only good but great because the university employs competent staff to teach their student. One of Tallinn University's set goal is becoming the promoter of intelligent lifestyle in Estonia environment and this is a goal that I can say is already been actualize.
There is a large-scale practice of internationalisation in the university and I will recommend Tallinn University first to any student seeking quality education in Estonia.
Are there any stories you can share?
Well, not really. But I must mention that I experienced a lot of cultural shock at first as an African student from Nigeria who came to study in Tallinn University but after a while, I overcame it.
Also, Tallinn University gave me the opportunity to go spend a semester in Anglia Ruskin University, UK, through their Erasmus exchange programme. This was a wow academic opportunity and experience that I will cherish all the rest of my life.
The university management to a very convincing extent showed to me that they are capable of meeting all their student's academic needs as well as taking care of all their security needs which is great and I am saying once again thank you Tallinn University for giving me a wonderful study experience.
