What Northern Lights have taught me on the day I expected the least

What Northern Lights have taught me:

That it is not so much a matter of getting what you expect for, but to get yourself out there with the only hope that you will experience whatsoever it is there for you to experience with open eyes and a non-judging heart.

That the sight is one thing, and your perception is another thing. As Francesco the guide said that the night seemed promising with all the "good" factors even though the moon was slightly too bright that night and thus the sky wouldn't be as dark for the lights to come out as bright. He then followed by saying that but moonlight also gives a different perspective to the scene. Easier to complain the not-that-good factors, but always better to find the positive side in the circumstance you're in.

That when you expect the least, you tend to get the most. That when I was about to call it a night and pat myself on the back saying "at least i get to see shooting stars" (not exactly what you are chasing for, but it's always something nice to see), murmuring to the fairly faint lights just how grateful I was to be standing there immersing in this life experience, the Northern Lights just came out as vividly as ever and started to perform its magical jaw-dropping movement in concert...

That even with all the "good factors", success is not guaranteed. It also requires a little patience and the right timing beyond one's control.

That even without the good factors, it doesn't mean that there is no chance either. The chance might be low but you, a tiny particle in the solar system, has no clue when the universe will be working in your favor.

That even the chase turns out a success, satisfaction is not guaranteed if you 'compare' it with other days with darker skies, brighter lights. Beauty is subjective. But truth is whatever happens is as good as it gets, as beautiful as it can be right there right in the very moment you experience it.

That the cold might get you shivering for temporary, but good memories last for ever.

This 7-hour chase brought back that excitement of "seeing something for the first time" again. As we age and chances of seeing something for the first time become rarer and rarer. Standing there under the light crossing from one side of sky to another, there that overwhelmed feeling of seeing something for the very first time again.

Whom matter most. If there were anything I could wish to make the night more complete, it would be the presence of the loved ones to be standing here witnessing how beautiful the universe we were born from is. Despite a little struggle on earth we make a big deal out of, as long as the origin of life is this beautiful, so must be lives.

Thank you Northern Lights. I hope you hear my gratitude.
