What is it like to live in Trieste? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I LOVE Trieste, everything about it. The people are very friendly if you understand a little bit about how Italians are in general. It offers a nice bit of high-end fashion with out getting into the "Milano" ambient... The transportation isn't the greatest due to the many stops made per route, no night buses, and poor connections to nearby cities like Muggia (Which is important if you live in one of those.) There are many charter buses into Slovenia and Croatia from the central station- so, checking out the western end of Easter European culture becomes quite accessible. ( The charter buses do take a long time to most destinations and you must plan an over-nighter since there are hardly any buses that return on the same day, that is...the further out you travel.

What is the student lifestyle like in Trieste?

I am a nomadic online student, so student life doesn't exist for me.

How much does it cost to live in Trieste?

That depends on ones own economic habits. Life can be as cheap or expensive as you wish to permit it. In my opinion, Trieste is relatively inexpensive- marisco/seafood meals are of a great quality (if you know where to find them.) Those meals are expensive when they are done correctly.... but, the BEST restaurants I have found in Muggia and Ankaran, Slovenia. And better priced.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Trieste? Is there any advice you can give?

Whereever you go- always book in advance. Booking.com is a great tool and APP to have :-DDD

TRICKS: When using booking.com, if you aren't sure where you will end up in the end and possibly you need to book various hotels in different cities to make sure you get the right price- Then get a debit card, that should be kept at the minimum level of cash- maybe 5 or 10 euros. Use this card to make your non-refundable or normal books. You will then be able to pay in person once you arrive and if you can't make it to the other hotels- there is no penalization for a "no-show/card declined".

I don't know about long term renting, my apartment was paid for by "the" company.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Eat as much fresh seafood as possible- It is the best in the coastal regions of Italy.

Branzino with mint leaves and fiori di caperi !! aaurhhhhhomgg

What places would you recommend visiting in Trieste?

Everywhere.
The pastry shops.
Muggia
The pastry shops.
The coffee spots with pastries.

Is it good to eat out in Trieste? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

My mind and heart are both stuck thinking about the coffee and pastry shops. the ones called "storico" are the best....

I usually eat out in Muggia. I like this town/city more than Trieste when it comes to dining atmosphere.

Is the nightlife good in Trieste? Where is good to go?

I have NO idea.
The Barcolana was fun....

What advice would you give future students heading to Trieste?

:-)
Focus on your studies.. have lots of Illy Coffee.. TRAVEL to the nearby countries and awesome cities.

Go to the tranquil San Rocco MArina of Muggia..

BRING your own printer!!!!!! Trieste has TWO copy/printer centers...and only one is open on the weekend.... I swear- look online for one of the super small traveler printers.. or buy one when you get here. Otherwise you are screwedddd ( unless it is the middle of the week.)
