Maria's experience in Trieste, Italy

How's life in Trieste? Would you recommend it? How's the city?

It's very nice living in Trieste! The city is beautiful both in terms of arts and landscape. Its main advantage is that it is surrounded by seaside. The best thing is sitting in front of the sea after classes or work and forget about everything. I would recommend it to everyone!

How's university life in Trieste?

Trieste would be ideal for those students who would like to have a tranquil life. There are different types of parties and there are many cool pubs where you can chat with people.

Is it hard to find an accommodation in Trieste? Any recommendations?

Not really, there are many websites where you can find many advertisements, but the easiest one is on the Facebook page, "Affittacamere Trieste" (rent rooms in Trieste).

How's the local food? What are your favourite plates?

Trieste is surrounded by the seaside, so any food based on fish is the best! But because it is a big city, you can have any kind of cuisine.

I would personally recommend relying on the typical cuisine of Trieste because it is fabulous.

What to visit in Trieste?

Of course, the Miramare Castle, the Castle of San Giusto and the Scala dei Giganti, Piazza Unità d'Italia, Risiera di San Sabba are places that must be absolutely seen. For those who love nature, I would recommend to go towards Val Rosandra and Napoleonica, they are fantastic places to go for a walk and breathe a bit of clean air.

What about places to eat? What are your favourite restaurants?

There are many typical places in Trieste, but the most famous ones are "Da Siora Rosa" and "Pepi Sciavo". There are also some famous pubs where famous writers, like Svevo, Saba and Joyce, used to go.

Any recommendations for future students in Trieste?

Fully enjoy their culture because it is very rich; the monuments and palaces reveal the whole history of this beautiful city. Don't be afraid of the Bora (a typical wind in Trieste) and of the elderly who would speak to you in dialect. Have a nice stay!
