Erasmus Experience in Trieste, Italy by Marija
Why did you choose to go to Trieste, Italy?
Triste is an inspirational place on the sea. When I heard there is opportunity to go studying there I was incredible content and now I will remember that experience for whole life.
What is the student lifestyle like in Trieste?
Student lifestyle is, let's say, charming. Every day, after hard lessons, we were going to drink coffee near the sea , and after, in the afternoon, we loved to spend aperativo time in via Torino because it's an Italian tradition which made richer our free time.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Trieste to other students?
Of course. It's special experience . Its not pure Italian spirit , it's very international atmosphere around you. Many perfect places to visit around the city, many museums, concerts and beautiful views . I was student of Conservatory of Music and it was perfect place to improve my art skills.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Trieste?
No.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes of course. And for me, Italian was easy to learn.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Trieste from your city?
Plane
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Trieste?
If someone prefer good music and casual atmosphere Romi in via Torino is perfect place. I prefer bar Round Midnight because of jam sessions (great jazz musicians from Triste and Udine). Knulp is calm place usually for afternoon study but I love to go there for cultural happenings in the evening.
Mandracchio and Colonial are disco clubs for someone who loves that kind of parties because I don't ;)
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Trieste?
I ate at home. But Taverna is really great. And of course 24h open Caveja where is best piandina ever:)
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Trieste in the future?
Yes. Use every weekend to look around center of Trieste. I made mistake because I didn't see that magical places but there are many things to see except Molo, San Giusto or Piazza dell'Unita.
P. S. Be careful with triestian 'borra'! It's not naive wind.
