Experience in Toulouse, France by PEZET
How did you find living in the city of Toulouse? Do you recommend it? How is the city?
Living in Toulouse is absolutely great! It's a very cultured city, in which there is always a musical event, a show or an exposition ongoing... The theatre and the opera do very interesting tariffs for young people.
Toulouse never sleeps. The bars are open until 2am and then the nightclubs take the reigns. What's more the metro runs until 3am on the weekend. I recommend 'the Pink City' to all students or workers wanting to enjoy a well connected, dynamic city with a very beautiful city centre.
How is student life in Toulouse?
Student life is very lively! There are numerous bars (wine, cocktail, tapas and nightclubs) in all of the centre's neighbourhoods. Many places have special student tariffs (transport, cinema, museums, etc... ).
What is the cost of living in Toulouse?
I lived in the Carmes quarter in the city centre (one of Toulouse's most expensive), in a shared apartment with another student on a budget of €700 a month. I think that with €500 a month, it's possible to live in Toulouse to a sufficient standard.
Is it hard to find accommodation in Toulouse? Have you got any advice to give?
The real estate market is very dense and you can find apartments at any time of the year. It's possible to go by agencies (it's what's most common) but certain landlorders go directly to the internet to find tenants. I recommend the websites leboncoin and vivastreet to find lettings.
How is the city's food? What are your favourite dishes?
French food is very pleasant and Toulouse isn't an exception to the rule! Like the Mediterraneans, the people here cook a lot with olive oil, with vegetables and good meat. It's healthy and not too fatty cuisine.
What places do you recommend to see in Toulouse?
La place du Capitole, the basilica Saint Sernin, the quartier des Carmes et Saint Etienne, the rue Alsace Lorraine for the shops, the Compans Cafarelli park, the plant garden and the natural history museum. On the other side of la Garonne, quartier Saint Cyprien is the most popular and student, and the Raymond 6 garden with le musée des Abattoirs (the slaughterhouse museum).

And to eat in Toulouse? Can you tell us your favourite places?
The little burger restaurants: 'Burgers à la une' or 'L'atelier du burger'.
La tantine for tapas (and you dance on the tables at the end of the meal! ).
La bistrologue, place du Ravelin.
L'entrecôte, on the Jean Jaurès boulevards.
What places do you recommend going out to in Toulouse?
The night never ends and there are always people in Toulouse at all times of the day. I recommend Le cri de la mouette, Une péniche (night club) or still, Le connexion (concert bar) for dancing. Many bars have the space in them to go and dance with your friends!
