Why did you choose to go to Toulouse, Francia?

France was pre-determined. I chose the south because of the weather, Toulouse because I'm a big rugby fan.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I was there for 10 months, and received €2000.

What is the student lifestyle like in Toulouse?

Incredible, such a large student population makes fora really fun time!

Would you recommend the city and the University of Toulouse to other students?

Of course!

What is the food like?

Good. Cassoulet, the local dish, wasn't particularly to my liking, but French cuisine is French cuisine!

How did you find your accommodation?

The accomodation was provided by CROUS, an organisation with ties to the University.

What are the accommodation prices like? What are prices like for other things in general?

~€160/month. Nothing is really expensive, but maybe drinks in bars are a bit pricier than in other countries.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

The language takes a bit of work to really have a mastery of, but not too difficult to get a very good standard (6-8 weeks once you get there). The University assessed our language ability, and provided courses based on ability.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Toulouse from your city?

Flying with Aer Lingus (or Ryanair to Carcassonne and get the SNCF up).

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Toulouse?

St. Pierre! Also Rue de l'Industrie has some cool spots!

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Toulouse?

Pizza Pino at Place Wilson was my favourite. De Danú do good food also!

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Actually, as a student, you can get a card for Toulouse Jeunes which offers entry into all sorts of events from the Médiathèque in Marengo.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Toulouse in the future?

Just immerse yourself in the city!

I have question about weather. I will study in Toulouse from januaty till june . To what kind of weather I have to prepare? How cold is winter and how warm is summer ?

  • flag-ie Richard King 14 years ago

Well, last year was a particularly long and cold winter. In early January, we had 10cm of snow and maybe as low as -10 degrees at night. It remained cold until the end of March (between 0 and 10 degrees most days). There was snow on the 1st of March, which I was told absolutely never happens. By mid May, temperatures should be about 25, getting up towards 30 in June. I was told it can be over 35 in August.
