What is it like to live in Toulouse? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Toulouse is a beautiful city with a rich culture and vibrant lifestyle. Home to a handful of universities, it accommodates an active young population throughout the academic year. Situated upon both the Garonne and Canal du Midi.

What is the student lifestyle like in Toulouse?

Student lifestyle is great whether you are in halls of residence or other location. Just watch out for Chapou, I wouldn't recommend living there to anyone ever. Unless you're with a group of good friends.

How much does it cost to live in Toulouse?

Living expenses are relatively high - it is the South of France. If you benefit from the ERASMUS grant and are working you will be fine though.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Toulouse? Is there any advice you can give?

As a student it can be extremely difficult to get a flat as many agencies require a French guarantor, so make sure you check this at the very first stage of the flat-hunt.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Food is great. There are several different markets and the wonderful collection of restaurants above the market just off Jean Jaures on the weekends. Traditional dishes of Cassoulet and Saucisson are also a real treat. Although, be warned- they think a pain au chocolat is called a chocolatine...

Is it good to eat out in Toulouse? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

Les Salles Gosses, Meet the Meat, La Faim des Haricots.

Is the nightlife good in Toulouse? Where is good to go?

The night-life is hard to judge...it depends on your music taste- there are a large number of bars and clubs spread out across the city. For gigs it's not so great as venues can be a lengthy metro journey away. But generally its a vibrant night-life.

What advice would you give future students heading to Toulouse?

Live in St Cyprien or Carmes if you can. They are both great places with good transport links and walkable distance from the city centre. If you're English... embrace the music scene as best you can... you'll get used to it. Get a metro-card if you're a student they're super cheap. Also make the most of the city bikes.
