Erasmus Experience in Toulouse, France by Matevž
Why did you choose to go to Toulouse, France?
France, endless, gorgeous landscapes, excellent weather... That was the main reasons why I choose Toulouse.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
4 months, 220€
What is the student lifestyle like in Toulouse?
Public transport for students is really cheap; 10€ per month, metro, tram and bus. They have some bars/clubs for good night life, but it's quite expensive. The most famous bar is "Chez tonton" next to Garonne river and it's really popular among french students. Exchange students don't like it much.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Toulouse to other students?
I was studying at TBS which partly private held school. School has a good position international and education is based more on practical knowledge. I would recomend it, but it's not the easiest study aboard...
What is the food like?
Bagguete, bagguete, bagguete and once again bagguete + cheese and wine. Typically french. GOOOOD.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Toulouse?
No, to find it was cheap, but accommondation itself is expensive.
How much does it cost to live in Toulouse?
I would say 400€ per month without traveling costs and extra at least 450€ per month for rent. my average monthly cost with traveling and rent was 1150€.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Language courses are available. Speaking just english is not easy to arrange all the administration stuff, but university and tutors are really helpful.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Toulouse from your city?
From my place, Slovenia (Ljubljana) it's almost the same if you go by car or by plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Toulouse?
"Chez tonton", "Barnum club" and "Le coleur" (next to Chez tonton).
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Toulouse?
I wasn't eating out a lot. So it would be hard for me to recommend anything.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Capitole, some historical monasteries, churches, squares. Mostly historical part. But there is also and Airbus museum close to airport.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Toulouse in the future?
Try to speak at least a little bit of french, be open-minded, people are friendly and nice. Enjoy the nightlife there!
