Why did you choose to go to Toulouse, France?

I chose Toulouse because I wanted to live in a big city that wasn't too far from the coast as I love the beach! I was also drawn to Toulouse because I read online that there was a high number of foreign/Erasmus people living in there so I knew we'd be well looked after.

How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?

I studied in Toulouse for the entire school year (Sept-May). I received an Erasmus grant and you can also apply for CAF (Government funded scheme that helps with rent).

What is the student lifestyle like in Toulouse?

Very international.

There are all kinds of things to do in the city in which you can enjoy discounted prices just by showing your student card.

Would you recommend the city and the University of Toulouse to other students?

I would definitely recommend Toulouse to other students. I also had a great experience at Toulouse II (Le Mirail) but I also know people that have had a bad experience at Toulouse I.

What is the food like?

There are many places to eat out and all types of cuisine are available. There are also lots of traditional restaurants serving local Toulousain dishes.

Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Toulouse?

Yes. I had to stay in hotel whilst I looked for somewhere to live but luckily I found a place on the first day.

How much does it cost to live in Toulouse?

Supermarkets are expensive but going out can be really cheap.

Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?

French is hard but you improve your french quickly having to use it all the time. There are lots of language courses provided by the university.

What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Toulouse from your city?

Easy-Jet from London Gatwick to Toulouse Blangac.

Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Toulouse?

Place St-Pierre, a square with loads of great bars, Traders, which is a club and Ibar, another club, particularly good on Wednesdays. These are just a few, there are so many places to go out in Toulouse!

And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Toulouse?

La faim des Haricots, Creperie on Place Wilson, so many good food places I just don't remember their names. Eating out can be expensive, though.

What good cultural sites are there to visit?

Musée des Augustins, Pont Neuf, Memorial François Verdier.

Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Toulouse in the future?

Buy the annual metro pass, it costs €100 for unlimited use on metro and buses (bargain! ). There is also a night bus that runs a really good service once the metro has closed.
