If you have read some of my other aritcles, this is probably no surprise: I absolutely love Italy. The people. the food, the wine, the language, pretty much everything.
Moving to the Hague was definitly not easy after living in Milan. It is quite a difference in so many aspects.
After only a few weeks in The Hague it was time for me to settle down and get my things sortetd out. I had found an apartment, I finally had all my books I needed for university and the only big thing to cross off was finding a place to work.
I was talking to a girl at uni and she asked: "Do you have any experience as waitress? ". I sure did, and shortly after, I found myself at Giuliano's.
I had never even noticed it from the outside, although it was right in the city centre. First time I went there, I was amazed: the walls were full of stuff. There were pictures, bottles of wine, some weird tools ( I still don't know what for). And then, from the kitchen I heard someone shouting, "Buongiorno! ". And then I knew, this will be amazing.
I'm not here to tell you about how much I loved working there. I wanna tell you about the amazing food you will find here.
It's pasta, and pasta, and more pasta.
Of course you can order the typical Italian starters (I highly recommend taking the antipasto misto) which is always served with some nice ciabatta bread. If you're not super hungry, maybe just have a small bruschetta for starters. Especially the one with homemade pesto is amazing!
For main course, as mentioned before, there's pasta. The best pasta in town.
You can have anything from seafood, to meat, to vegetarian, even glutenfree. The tagliatelle dishes are the best if you ask me. The one with shrips and zucchini and also the one with ragout are my top recommendations.
But one thing is for sure, no matter what you choose, you will not regret.
The only problem is, that you'll probably want more.
Here are three tips:
- Ask the waitress for the specials of the day (sometimes it is so busy that it gets forgotten)
- Try the house wine, it is delicious and cheap!
- Make a reservation!
It gets super busy in this tiny restaurant sometimes and especially between 7pm and 8pm you might not be lucky, just walking in. Just give them a call a few days before to make sure you get a seat.
Oh and how could I forget, dessert!
Take the Tiramisu.
Every dessert is heavenly but this Tiramisu, might be one of the best you'll ever had. If you're up for something different, give the Baba al Rhum a try. But don't be shocked, it's quite alcoholic. The first time I tried, I had no idea and I swear it tasted like a sweet shot!
At the end of your evening, do go for a coffee or tea. You'll get a great little selection of bisquits!
When it's time to go and your bellies are happily filled, you can expect a limoncello on the house.
I hope you find time to visit my little piece of Italy in the heart of The Hague.
I'd love to hear about your favourite dishes and if you felt the Italian atmosphere as much as I did.
Buon appetito e arrivederci!
