What is it like to live in Szeged? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

Its a sunny town with moderated weather. Well, in summer it's like in the Mediterranean countries, winter are light with little snow.

What is the student lifestyle like in Szeged?

Szeged is a university town so the students life is part of the everyday life for the locals.

How much does it cost to live in Szeged?

For 400 Euros, one can get a really good flat in the town center or around the TIK. With the destination the price goes lower but the quality can stay.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Szeged? Is there any advice you can give?

It depends on the willingness but in my opinion it is not difficult. The locals did get used to the students, so there are many who invest in building then renting flats.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Hungary produces food for itself but we do import from all over the world. There is possibility to shop from the homegrown from the locals on a big market in the town centre, but there are several stores which offer safe health food products.

What places would you recommend visiting in Szeged?

The botanical garden, the zoo, the riverside is nice as well. The big teathre, the old water tower, the Dom square.

Is it good to eat out in Szeged? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

The food is mostly local but the restaurants adjusted the variety of needs that show up so its easy to find everything desirable. The Halászcsárda on Roosevelt square is quite unique. They serve authentic Hungarian lowland food which is typical for Szeged area. The town centre is full of smaller and bigger restaurants so it easy to choose. But as you go further from the centre, you can find less fancy but more realistic places.

Is the nightlife good in Szeged? Where is good to go?

The night life in Szeged is well organized. How the university is big they have loads of university clubs. Pubs are recommended as well as the locals are enjoying the hanging out too. The clubbing scena is developed too but about this I have shady ideas since I am not going clubbing.

What advice would you give future students heading to Szeged?

To feel free to come. To get a translator if there are any problems because this place is like any other. There are good people and those who are just looking for the opportunity as well. Have patience towards the locals, Hungary is a country which citizens could not travel for 40 years so there is a generation who havent seen the world and they might not understand a few things about you.
