A Day in Heaven- Lungern
I along with my friend planned a 12 day tour of 5 countries. We purchased this Interflix pass offered by the flix bus. It’s like paying 100 Euros for 5 tickets. They send you the codes which can be redeemed for 5 trips of your own choice. The only condition is that they need to have a direct bus connection for your selected trip. I would highly recommend using it.
Switzerland or to be more precise Zurich was our first destination. We reached there in the early morning of 21st October, 2017 after taking a 14 hours long bus from Budapest. We did couch surfing whose entire story I am going to share in my next blog about Zurich. However the place was quite close to Central Station. We took a small nap and decided to visit Lake Lungern that day instead of roaming around Zurich.
I am afraid my vocabulary will fell short for what I am going to describe in this blog. Still I will give my best shot and I hope the photographs will support my words a little bit.
First of all be ready for any “Financial Shocks” in Switzerland. If you think people are exaggerating when talking about the high prices there, let me assure you they are not!
So we took our train to Lungern. The price of a normal one way ticket is around 35 Euros. Considering the fact that we were students in Europe we purchased the half price tickets. We then took our seats and the journey started. A checker came, checked our tickets and smilingly thanked us and went away. We were then more relaxed and thought that Yes we had bought the right tickets. Once we left the territory of Zurich, the scenes were becoming more and more beautiful. We were enjoying one of those scenes, when another checker came. He saw our tickets and then demanded Student Cards from us. We showed him our cards. And then he exploded a bomb on us revealing that to avail discounts on transport, we needed to be students in Switzerland, and being a student in Europe was not enough. Anyhow he knew that we were tourists so he just demanded the rest of 50% and not any extra charges.
We calculated our budget for a while and then decided not to ruin this beautiful trip with those worries. The scenes outside were breathtaking. The green meadows, the beautiful lakes with some snow covered mountains in the far background. My friend was mostly excited for the cows though! I was telling myself again and again that it was for real. We were thinking that nothing can be more beautiful than this. But we were wrong.
Once we reached the station Lungern and watched the art of God around, we felt like being in heavens. We laughed at ourselves for being so excited about the scenes we watched during our journey.
It was splendid, magnificent, exquisite, and magical and add all the synonyms of beauty you know, trust me they won’t be enough. You have to come and see it for yourself.
Before going down to the lake we wanted to visit this church standing high and graceful in front of us. Pfarrkirchewas one of the few and perhaps the biggest Catholic Church in Lungern. It was built some 110 years ago. We wanted to go inside but it was closed.
While I was taking pictures there, this man joined me for one. We couldn’t talk with each other due to the language barrier. But the smiles and gesture of brotherhood and peace we shared were symbols of a successful communication.
The view from the terrace was – I am not saying anything, see it for yourself.
And yes my friend was busy capturing the cows!
This is going to be one of the most memorable clicks ever, I hope you can see the intensity of this punch, had it hit his head or neck, he probably would have died or at least fainted for a while.
So we took some in fact a lot of pictures and continued our walk towards lake. A close up of a cow, in case any of the readers is as fond of cows as my friend was.
Finally we sat near the lakefor some time, talking about how beautiful heaven is going to be, because for us it was the point beyond which our imagination was not working. I couldn’t thank God enough for letting me witness this part of the World. Everything was so serene and peaceful. I never wanted to leave that place, I really wanted to scream out aloud “Someone here please adopt me.”
While going back to the station, we got our treat, an extra bonus for the trip. There was this band most probably rehearsing for some event and we enjoyed free live music. Now it was beyond perfect, the panoramic scenery and the amazing live music.
Well that trip would cost a person 70 Euros just for the transport, and for students it might be a lot, but trust me I was never so satisfied after spending such money. It was definitely worth it. And whenever I can, I‘ll visit it again without a moment of thinking.
