Nerja – the cosiest place in Costa del Sol
Nerja is the first city I visited during my Erasmus semester. It is a small and cosy city in the southern part of Spain, being located very close (50 km) to Malaga. This small Andalusia town impresses with its extraordinary minimalism and Mediterranean climate. The most beautiful view there can be seen from the central point of the city, which is called “Balcon de Europa”. From that spot you can admire the beauty of the rocky coast, the small and characteristic beaches belonging to Nerja and the incredibly breathtaking blue sea , of which waves hit the rocks around this coastal town.
The view from the Balcon de Europe
The chief characteristic of the city is marked through small and cosy houses. Nerja is recognized as a white city with charming and narrow streets, where you can buy different types of clothes, souvenirs and colorful trinkets in local shops. You can also get delighted by typical Andalusia cuisine in traditional Spanish restaurants located along the coast. A must-do summer time activity is to check out some of the many ice cream parlors in the city, in order to discover the amazing taste of Spanish ice-cream.

To get to Balcon of Europe one can go for a walk along the wide promenade, which is during summer period very popular thanks to many local sellers and various restaurants. One’s attention can easily be caught by the small but at the same time very meaningful and charming church – El Salvador church, which is next to the promenade, making the old town a lot more gorgeous.
The beauty of Nerja during summer time
Last but not least, I personally very much suggest everyone to visit this small city. Despite the fact that there are not so many attractions, I found it very cosy and relaxing. It is not a coincidence that the region is called “costa del Sol” for no reason, since the weather is very sunny and warm throughout most of the year. For those who miss the hot weather I definitely suggest to visit Andalusia and see for themselves, if Nerja is as beautiful as I describe it here :)
