I want to find a house NOW!

Experience in Setúbal, Portugal. By Raquel

How's living in Setúbal? Would you recommend it? How is the city?

I would highly recommend living/studying in Setúbal, it's a beautiful city, with many interesting monuments (Convento de Jesus, Museu do Trabalho, amongst others). The city has an amazing climate, with a beautiful mountain and the Bay of Troy. It's essentially known for its gastronomy, for its excellent fried fish.

How is the student environment in Setúbal?

In my opinion the student environment is good, but there is a certain rivalry between schools. I think it's normal, and even healthy, there is a bit of competition between schools in terms of which one gets the best grades, which one is best at school sport, all the activities are a competition.

On average, how much did you spend living in Setúbal?

As I live in my parents' house, I don't have an idea of how much you spend on a house in Setúbal, but I know that there are little apartments to rent all over the city which definitely are accessible.

In terms of food, it's cheap, since there is a big range of reasonably-priced restaurants and supermarkets that you can use.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Setúbal? Do you have any advice you can give?

You can't just look, you have to go to places and then you'll find what you want.

How is the food? What are your favourite delicacies?

The food is delicious. Setúbal is known for its fish: horse-mackerel, sea-bream and roasted sardines, but what I would really recommend is the fried cuttlefish.

Where would you recommend for a visit in Setúbal?

I would recommend visiting the Convento de Jesus, the Museum of Work, The Casa da Baía and the Casa da Cultura, and definitely have a stroll along the beautiful Bay of Troy.

How's the quality of restaurants in Setúbal? Can you tell us your favourite restaurants?

Léo do Choco Frito, Ribeirinha do Sado and Zé da Adega for those who like fish. Portugalia is good for meat.

How is the night life in Setúbal? Where are the best places?

There are many bars/cafés/nightclubs open at night. Fashion, So Much, Design, Bubba are some of the best you can find on the Avenida Luísa Todi.
