Erasmus Experience in Setúbal, Portugal by Raquel
Why did you choose to go to Setúbal, Portugal?
Because my teachers told me that here in Portugal they are best about science and scientific world, and since I want to be a physiotherapist, I chose this option to improve my skills.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I stay here for two months and I receive 350 for month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Setúbal?
I felt like part of Setúbal, because the other Spanish students here received us so well and invited us to go to their parties, bowling, play basketball... Here you have always something to do.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Setúbal to other students?
Yes, I recommend this city and also the university because students here are so open to receive you.
What is the food like?
The food is really cheap, is cheaper to go to a restaurant than buy food at the supermarket, but the two options are so cheap.
The food is so good, but I think that in the university, if you don't need to, don't go there to have lunch, the food there is not so good.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Setúbal?
I had lots of problems to find accommodation here, but finally we found it, a little far from the center, but at least we had accommodation.
How much does it cost to live in Setúbal?
Here the life is so cheap, included going to the parties at night, there are some pubs in the center that sell beer for 1-0, 5 euros.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
I think that the language is not so difficult, maybe because I'm Spanish and it is a bit similar. I don't know if there are courses available, because I am not at the university, I'm doing my internship.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Setúbal from your city?
I have travelled by airplane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Setúbal?
I recommend visiting the pub Dose, it is so cheap and there are always other Erasmus students.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Setúbal?
I haven't visited so many restaurants yet, but sports cafés are a good option and also the restaurant on the top of Dose (the music pub).
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
I have visited Sintra, and I loved it! It is so beautiful, I really recommend going there!
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Setúbal in the future?
I don't have any bad point about this city, only don't go alone at night, just to prevent some situations....
I recommend going by taxi at night, it is cheap and it takes you until the door of your house.
