Erasmus Experience in Sassari, Italy by Roko
Why did you choose to go to Sassari, Italy?
It's very similar to my home country, and since it was a summer internship I decided to find myself an internship where weather was great and hopefully closed to a beach.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
It was for three months, about 450 euros for a month.
What is the student lifestyle like in Sassari?
Well, since I wasn't at Sassari during the semester there wasn't so much student activities, but I had a great roommate and met some other interns and enjoyed my time at Sassari.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Sassari to other students?
Yeah, it isn't such a big city but it's in the middle of Sardinia so you can travel wherever you want by bus. It is close to Alghero, Porto Torres and lovely beach La Pelosa.
What is the food like?
Food is great like in every Mediterranean country!
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Sassari?
No, I found myself a flat before I arrived to Sassari. The owner of the apartment was really great, my roommates also, so I must say that I was really lucky with my accommodation.
How much does it cost to live in Sassari?
In my opinion not too much, similar to other European countries.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Yes language courses are available, but I learned Italian in my high school so I managed ok, but if you are going over there and you are planning to comunicate in English I need to advise you its pretty much impossible. Learn basics of Italian before arrival.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Sassari from your city?
I had two options, first was flying to Brussels and then from there to Fertilia airport, close to Sassari. And the other one was by ship to Ancona and from Ancona to Sassari by plane.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Sassari?
City center, or even better at summer just go to Alghero.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Sassari?
I don't remember any names but most of them are in the main street.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
Not much, you can sightsee Sassari in two days, but you can travel around from Sassari very easy.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Sassari in the future?
Travel all around, everything is close and really amazing.
