Idoia´s Experience in San Sebastián, Spain

What do you think about San Sebastián as a city to live in? Would you recommend it? What's it like?

I´m Donostiarra (from San Sebastián), and I love it, so of course I would recommend it. It´s a small city, but with all the good things of a big city.

What´s the student life like in San Sebastián?

There´s a great student atmosphere; the UPV/EHU library is barely a few years old and it´s facilities are great; the only bad thing is that it´s not open at the weekend.

How much does living in San Sebastián cost?

They say that Donostia is the second or third most expensive city in Spain...

Did you struggle to find accommodation in San Sebastián? Do you have any advice for finding somewhere?

You can find a lot of advertisements for student flats on the noticeboards at the university, in lecture rooms and in the library.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

Excellent.

What places would you recommend to visit in San Sebastián?

The Old Town, Gros, the beaches, the centre... everything!

And what about eating in San Sebastián? Can you tell us some of your favourite places?

For Italian food : La Mina

For sandwiches : Teresatxo in El Antiguo, Bide-Bide in the centre

For other dishes (hamburgers etc) : Caravanserai

What places do you recommend to go out partying in San Sebastián?

The Old Town until 4:30am, then Bataplan. If it´s a Saturday, don´t go to Bataplan before 4:00am.

Do you have any advice you would like to give to future students in San Sebastián?

Enjoy - it´s going to be the best time of your lives! You have to learn how to balance your studies with partying... good luck!
