Experience in Donostia/San Sebastián, Spain by Aitor
What is it like to live in San Sebastian? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?
Probably the most beautiful city in Spain. Breathtaking landscape and city environment. Very good life quality. EUROPEAN CAPITAL OF CULTURE in 2016!
What is the student lifestyle like in San Sebastian?
Many international students, nice and animated lifestyle.
How much does it cost to live in San Sebastian?
VERY expensive prices for everything (food, accomodation, transport... ). Certainly the biggest disadvantage of this city.
Is it difficult to find accommodation in San Sebastian? Is there any advice you can give?
Nice student dormitories, many flats... but usually very expensive.
What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?
Food is very nice, the best of the renowned Basque gastronomy.
What places would you recommend visiting in San Sebastian?
Kontxa Bay, Old Quarter, mt. Urgull, mt. Igeldo...
Is it good to eat out in San Sebastian? Can you tell us your favourite spots?
Good but usually very expensive. Most amazing pintxos bars in the Old Quarter: La Cuchara de San Telmo and Zeruko, must try at least once. Every Thursday drinks and small pintxos for 2 € in all the bars of Gros district, hundreds of young people gather there.
Is the nightlife good in San Sebastian? Where is good to go?
Not a big city, so not many places for party. One major disco (Bataplan), many pubs and clubs in the Old Quarter and the city centre.
What advice would you give future students heading to San Sebastian?
It is a wonderful city to live if you can afford the high costs. And don't expect good weather just because it's in Spain!
