Life Lesson...

San Francisco and more...

Before landing in San Francisco I spent the summer season working as a Lifeguard in Italy, and saved all my money for the next adventure....

Actually, I was looking for flight tickets – I found one for San Francisco which was so cheap, only $540, so I bought it immediately.

Usually I love sharing my experience with somebody else, but this was the time to go by myself.

Sometimes life closes doors because it is time to move forward, which actually is not actually a bad thing because we will often not move unless circumstances force us.

That is why I decided to do this trip alone, and also I like to challenge myself!

Before going to San Francisco my trip was quite long.

Firstly, I reached Milano by bus and took my first flight to New York, where the time difference was 5 hours less. My second flight from JFK to San Francisco lasted around six hours and the time difference was then 9 hours less.

I arrived in San Francisco at 11 pm and spent the first night in the airport.

The day after, I took a taxi from the airport to the hostal.

My first day in San Francisco was unforgettable, the city is beautiful with a magic atmosphere, but, in fact, it was unforgettable because I walked for 38. 5 km.

It is a huge city and it is possible to walk to reach places anywhere.

Anyway, I was full of energy and curious to discover the meaning of being alone in one of the biggest cities in the world.

My hostal, "Green Tortoise", was full of backpackers. While having breakfast I had the chance to meet a lonely Canadian teacher, I was curious about Canada and she explained to me how Canada was divided. I didn't know that Alaska belonged to USA.

However, the hostal was one of the cheapest places in San Francisco. I paid for $50 to share a room with four guys... so maybe not that cheap after all.

In fact, the cook was Italian (completely crazy) and also I met two more Italians in that hostal, two siblings. The boy, a DJ, who lived in a house with friends with the intention of developing his network. Then there was the sister, who was 35 years old. We talked for a while: she had broken up with her boyfriend and suddenly decided to follow her brother on his adventure, but she went directly to Los Angeles. Escaping for a while, is it the best solution? I guess we are going to find that out together.

The day after was really foggy, which is quite common in San Francisco. I rode a bus close to the Golden Gate Bridge and then took a MegaBus to my next stop.

After a 13 hour bus ride to Los Angeles, my dream came true...

San Diego Southern California is divided in Old Town and Downtown, but we will talk about that later.

Here, exists one of the top 10 climates in the world. In the USA, we are talking in Fahrenheit - so 70°F actually corresponds to 21°C for Europeans.

These were my first two days in the USA. So, to summarise, one guy went on a trip alone, spent the first two days in San Francisco, and after that arrived in San Diego and met his Erasmus friend.

My Erasmus friend Cory greeted me - we studied together in Murcia.

It is always a pleasure to see an old friend and I have to thank him for having me!
