Why did you choose to go to Salamanca, Spain?
I chose to go to Salamanca because I heard of the quality of the University and how clear I was told that Spaniards speak speak there. After arriving here I found out that it is the Party-City of Spain, which I noticed immediately in the first week.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I stayed in Salamanca for almost a year and received 200€ for 8 months.
What is the student lifestyle like in Salamanca?
You will party way more than you actually should. Besides, you have to pay attention that you don´t get lost in the consumption and alcohol, otherwise you will fail all the exams, as the clases are really dificult.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Salamanca to other students?
By any means yes!
What is the food like?
You can eat a lot of Tapas here and the region is famous for its meat, which is also really nice.
Did it cost you to find your accommodation in Salamanca?
No, not really, but pay attention to get a proper room that is not too expensive, as they sell really expensive flats to the Erasmus-people, sometimes just because they are 2 minutes closer to the centre. Believe me, the distances are not that high.
How much does it cost to live in Salamanca?
Depends on your lifestyle and how often you go out.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
Depends on your studies, I am studying literature in the last semester here and I have problems to read all the books and stuff, even though I am quite fluent in Spanish.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Salamanca from your city?
Fly to Madrid and then take a BlaBlaCar or a bus to Salamanca. It is way cheaper.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Salamanca?
Everywhere.
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Salamanca?
The Tapas bar under the Palacio de Anaya is very good for students.
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
There are a lot of nice mountains around Salamanca, like the Sierra de Francia.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Salamanca in the future?
Try to start studying before December and keep an eye on your wallet as drinking each night of the week can be quite expensive.
