Hi! I lived in Salamanca last year. I think that it is a spectacular university city. A normal day in Salamanca you go to Van Dyck (street with a lot of bars where you can have “tapas” or “pinchos”). In these bars, they do not serve the typical croquette, a Spanish omelette portion or a slice of sausage; there are a great variety of tapas for €1.50 with a glass of beer. There are also many “tapas bar” near Plaza Mayor. To go round bars to eat snacks and drink is something typical. These bars seem to be a dive but they do not, they have good music, good atmosphere and table football. There are a thousand bars to go: http://salamanca.salir.com/denoche-bares_de_copas_y_pubs~2?

There are free bars for €4 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesday (from 11:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m.) and Thursdays (from 11:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.). You can choose between beer, wine and cola, sangria or “manzanita”, so hangover will be usual.

There is also important to know that in Salamanca you will never be alone, there are people everywhere, a lot of Erasmus student, students from the rest of Spain. I only met for or five “charros”: people from Salamanca.

There are local fiestas, but it worth a special mention the university fiestas, when you go out just after having breakfast. People wear fancy customs, there are concerts and bars are opened from 4:00 p.m. to the next day morning. I will update some pictures.

In winter is quite cold, but there is nothing unbearable with a good jacket. Last year I saw the snow. As for prices, the best election is to buy in Dia supermarket.

Salamanca is near Madrid and it is linked by bus and train, so you can travel around Castilla y León and Extremadura. When the weather is nice, everybody goes to Anaya’s Gardens, to the river or to the Plaza Mayor. You will see people on the ground all day.

There are many places to discover and visit, as the Casa de las conchas, the Cathedral, the Tower, the Calisto and Melibea’s garden…
