10 things to do in St. Petersburg, number 3 is essential
Welcome once again!
I never thought I would be visiting St. Petersburg; it really seemed impossible.
A far away place, but of course, never say never!
When thinking of Russia, I thought of the cold. Although it was cold, it was wonderful and the views... What can I say? It's marvelous!
There are a thousand things to do in St. Petersburg, you will like some more than others but everything is magical and it's all so pretty.
You can do so many things in this city and explore lots of monuments. Now I'm going to recommend you 10 essential things to do that I have chosen from my visit to St Petersburg.
1. Visit the St Petersburg Mosque
Impressive! For me, it was the best thing I've seen so far. The façade, made up of a crystal blue mosaic, caught my attention along with the dome and the minaret. It's so high!
This is a must-see during your trip to the city because it will definitely leave you amazed.
2. Explore Nevsky Prospekt
A walk along this main avenue of St. Petersburg is not to be missed. The walk can be quite long because the avenue is very big, but it is great and a very animated street where you will see many tourists walking along.
Furthermore, enter into Singer House, relax and have somethign in the cafe on the upper floor while you enjoy the views of the Kazán Cathedral.
3. Enjoy, observe and photograph the beautiful Church of The Savior on the Spilled Blood
It is an icon of this city, and I'm sure that you, like me, will have seen this a thousand times before, whether it be on television, photos, magazines... A lot of places.
Because of this, my expectations were very high and I though that it was going to disappoint me in person because that's happened with lots of monuments before, but this time when I found myself in front of it, I fell in love! It left me astonished!
The vibrant colours that the towers were formed of stood out to me... So let's be honest, it's everything and therefore, let me tell you, it is an obligatory visit in your trip to this Russian city.
Don't miss it!
4. Get to know the main cathedral in St. Petersburg: The Kazán Cathedral!
Although there are lots of cathedrals in St. Petersburg, the one that stands out the most is this one: the Kazán Cathedral.
It is a must-see!
5. Visit the St. Isaac Cathedral
Spectacular! Especially on the inside. So you have to see the inside as well - it's essential.
Furthermore, climb the dome and enjoy the views of St. Petersburg and the Garden of Alexander in front of the Cathedral.
Take advantage of this garden to relax in after have been up the dome of the cathedral.
Observe the Nikolai Przhevalsky monument. Furthermore, they told me that if you get on the camel, you'll have good luck. So that's what I did.
Impressive!
6. Take a trip on the St. Petersburg Metro
I heard from my grandma that this is the deepest metro that she had been in, and she even told me that she was very scared.
I thought that she was exaggerating a little bit, but once I was inside I confirmed that it was impressive and the escalators were super long that you could've had a siesta in the time it took to go up and down.
But it was so beautiful! Especially the Avtovo Station.
7. Visit The Catherine Palace in Pushkin
One of the best tourist activities that you can do in St. Petersburg is to explore its majestic palace.
This palace, like almost all of them, is in the outskirts of the city, but it is very much worth the detour to visit it.
Without a doubt, the part that stands out the most is the Amber Room in the palace - it is a wonderful room!
Furthermore, if you are a fan of Disney movies, which obviously includes me, I recognised that one of the rooms is in the movie Anastasia!
It is idyllic both on the inside and out. It is a must-see!
What a wonderful palace! Enjoy visiting it as much as I did!
8. Get to know the Peterhof Palace
Like I've said before, it is one of the tourist activities that stands out the most in this Russian city; to get to know the palaces located outside of the city but are just as worth visiting.
We explored this palace when we went to Peterhof, a city that is located a little outside of St. Petersburg but that is wonderful!
It is made up by palaces, gardens and fountains that are all spectacular. Furthermore, they form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a museum at the moment.
I liked this visit a lot and so I would recommend it to all of the tourists to travel to explore this Russian city.
Dedicate some time to this city and explore the palace inside - you definitely won't regret it!
It is a must-see!
9. Go inside the Hermitage Museum
For me, it was one of the biggest museums that I have visited and I honestly spent hours and hours enjoying the interior of this museum, and the exterior. Given that it is amazing!
I sincerely recommend you to go and enjoy the decoration of the interior. It is a grand building that, although it is formed by six buildings, the Winter Palace stands out the most.
Many tourists visit this museum, or at least I don't know if it would be a coincidence, when I was visiting there were a lot of people there.
It's very much worth a visit. Don't miss it!
10. s Fortress
Today is the Headquarters of the Museum of History, according to what they told me when I was visiting.
Furthemore, behind the fortress you can find the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul where I could see, and if you visit you will be able to see the tombs of various Tsars of Russia and some of their family members.
Also, inside the Fortress of Saints Peter and Paul we can see where the old political jail was located, where you will be able to explore where Lenin's brother, Dostoevsky, was imprisoned... I visited due to curiosity, but it will definitely be less interesting for many of you.
You don't have to go far from the fortress if you want to enjoy St. Petersburg beach which, of course, was not a good idea because the temperature was not well-suited to this and I don't think there is any time when it is suited.
But, even though, it is still worth a visit to see all of the amazing views that it has.
Enjoy it!
St. Petersburg deserves to be visited by everyone at least once in your life. It's marvellous and it has spectacular places, charming corners and monuments that must be seen.
You can't imagine what there is to see until you come and see it. I'm telling you this from my own experience.
It's reccommended.
See you next time, travellers!
