10 Things to See in Rome, Don't Miss Number 7!

Today I am returning to a country that has been a second home for me for quite a while now, we are flying to Italy! More specifically, we are going to Rome. What to see in Rome? What to do in Rome? How much time in Rome? How many days will it take? These are all questions that we ask when we plan to travel to Rome.

From my point of view, I can say that for however few or many days that we come for, it's always going to seem too little to dedicate to Rome.

It awakes curiosity and emotion in its every corner... Apart from what appears in the photos, television, newspaper and adverts, I would recommend you to go to the parts of Rome that you don't know. That's what I did on my trip, and I had the luck of being able to explore the Palacion de Nerón, which is not very well-known by tourists.

So, after my last trip to Rome, I would recommend that you visit each one of these places I am about to describe:

1. The Neighbourhood of Trastevere.

During my trip, I had the luck of my accommodation being located within this area, an area where I don't have many comments about, I don't know what it is about Trastevere that everyone loves and makes everyone speak well of it, and I... I can say that it is marvellous, peculiar and welcoming.

It is an enchanting area where you can walk through the streets that cross over with the day-to-day neighbourhoods of the town where they sell clothes in the windows, supermarkets, side doors make of wood and terraces that hide urban gardens. I don't know what it is about this neighbourhood, but for me particularly, I loved it. If I come back to Rome one day, I am definitely returning to Trastevere.

Furthermore, I have to say that for a couple of minuted I thought I was back in Spain, in my Andalucia visiting the San Calist Bar with their cheap beers and murmuring of people. Just like a typical Adalucian town pub.

We can also see the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere, in the neighbourhood of Trastevere. It's beautiful, enchanting and located in the Santa María Square in Trastevere.

Don't forget that Travestere, although it is calm during the day with barely any noise, save for a television you can hear when you pass by, small murmurings of people or tourists passing the cute streets, at night it is really busy. People, people and more people! There are lots of places to eat, drink and have a pint (from the typical restaurants to places where they serve Italian aperitifs).

Travestere is... Impressive.

2. Vatican CIty.

Every step you take within Vatican city will impress you even more. There are three of the most impressive visits you can make within the city of the Vatican, and of course, you can't miss the views from anywhere you are.

There are lots of queues that you will have to wait in to see everything, so I recommend that you take everything from home, bought online, is easier and faster.

-Saint Peter's Square.

IMPRESSIVE! Not only for its immensity but also for the columns that surround it and for the statues that you can find on top of each column.

Enjoy this spectacular plaza arriving from the Via dell Conciliazione that starts from the Castel Sant'Angelo.

It always has so much atmosphere with people everywhere, it is a charming to pass through.

- Basilica of Saint Peter.

As we all know already, the Basilica of Saint Peter is the most important building in Catholicism. I have to say, it impressed me a lot, I loved it.

Inside it we can find the Micheal Angelo's Piétà, and the statue of Saint Peter on his throne.

Its dimensions are spectacular and the most impressive thing in the Basilica of Saint Peter is the rise up to the dome. However, let me add that the last stretch of the climb is a little complicated and not suitable for everyone, from it you can see all of Rome (weather permitting) and also the great Saint Peter's Square. You can't miss this trip inside the Vatican City.

- Vatican Museums.

Don't miss it! If you can visit it, make sure you do! Although there are other things to see behind it. During my trip to Rome, I did the Nighttime visit to the Vatican Museums and it left me very impressed.

There are a thousand ways to avoid the huge queue for tickets to these museums, it's one of the longest in the world, I think. Furthermore, don't visit on Sundays (there are a lot of people on this day).

From my experience, the best time would be 7pm in the afternoon, seeing that I went in August and it is open for the nighttime visits to the Vatican Museums.

Inside the Vatican Museums, as well as finding the famous Sistine Chapel, we can find other museums like the Egyptian Museum, the Cartographical Map Gallery and the Pío-Clementine Museum. Let me tell you, don't miss this visit, it's spectacular.

3. The Coliseum

It is the most impressive monument in the world. We could also say that it is almost essential in your trip to Rome.

It's exterior in spectacular, worthy of admiration and it is an authentic wonder. Arrive there from the Via dei Fori Imperiali from the Venecia Square and your views from here will be amazing.

For me, the interior wasn't what I expected. The outside caught my eye more, it is more impressive.

You can enjoy it eating a snack, having dinner or even breakfast in one of the restaurants with views of the Coliseum. It's worth it.

4. Roman Foum.

The Roman Forum, as well as the Coliseum, is another of the most important monuments in Rome, in which life (public, cultural, economical) developed in Ancient Rome.

However, in my opinion, I think that similarly with the Coliseum, the exterior views were more impressive than the interior.

Along the avenue on which the Roman Forum is found, you will enjoy buskers, and even people painting or dressed up.

I would recommend this visit if you're going on holiday to Rome and you have a few days spare to visit these things.

5. The Pantheon.

The Agripa Pantheon is one of the monuments in Rome that did not deceive me. It is more, I liked it a lot and I think that it is undoubtedly one of the best conserved works of art in Rome.

You can find the grand tomb of the painter Rafael inside, as well as numerous works of art and the tombs of some of the kings of Italy.

Do not miss the view of this beautiful monument from one of the terraces of the Rotonda Square while enjoying the spectacle of different street artists.

6. The Legends and Mysteries Tour

During my stay in Rome, through Civitatis, we reserved a tour. It was amazing!

We started at the Popolo Square and we ended up in Trastevere. During the whole tour, the tour-guide was telling us stories and legends about living in Ancient Rome with ghosts, murders prostitutes...

It was a tour where he told us in detail each one of these legends and showed us the most mysterious places of the City of Rome.

The tour was two and a half hours long, but it was amazing and you will get to know the more mysterious side of Rome, seeing and admiring each monument, church and place that you pass by.

100% recommended.

7. DOMUS AUREA

The most spectacular visit I have made in Rome is a visit to the Palace of Nero, a dark museum of Roman painting, which was buried at the beginning of the second century AD.

10-cosas-ver-roma-7-no-te-puedes-perder-

It's like a big underground adventure, you can feel the dampness of the ground while you admire the different rooms and paintings that have been excavated and that form part of this incredible grand palace, that has yet to be discovered. They actually continue to work on these works of art with the aim of discovering and adjusting the spectacular palace for the public.

A tour-guide was telling us how it was an ancient palace, and about who and what the rooms were like as we passed through them

Then we enjoyed a 3D reconstruction of what the Nerón Palace was during its own time.

IMPRESSIVE!

They have reduced prices for group visits when you can have a helmet for safety as well.

Also, this is important: don't forget your jacket! It's cold down there.

This visit is 100% recommended for everyone who comes to Rome whether it's for one day or four days.

Enjoy it!

8. Navona Square.

This is one of the most beautiful and wonderful plazas in Rome. In my opinion, together with the España Square, it's the one I like the most.

10-cosas-ver-roma-7-no-te-puedes-perder-

There are three impressive fountains to admire in this Plaza: Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, Fontana del Nettuno and Fontana del Moro.

Interesting! Before, they used to shut the drains off from these three fountains and the central part of the plaza so that it would flood and become a "lake": "The Navona Square Lake".

In this plaza we can also find the church: the Saint Inés Church and the Pamphili Square.

Don't hesitate to drink something in any one of the bars that are located around this plaza, observe everything whilst you relax in the wonder that is this plaza.

9. España Square.

This plaza is one of the plazas where the largest amount of people meet; tourists and citizens of Rome alike. Furthermore, it's monumental staircase is seen in many fils.

10-cosas-ver-roma-7-no-te-puedes-perder-

In this plaza we can also find the Spanish Embassy And the Fontana della Barcaccia, which has the emblems of the Bernini family engraved on it.

The most impressive thing about this plaza is the grand and beautiful staircase. It's a plaza that is accessed by one of the most expensive streets in Rome, famous for it's shopping - the Via dei Condotti. It is also surrounded by streets such as the Via Fratina and the Via del Babuino which have certain old palaces within them.

We could say that the España Square is loacted in one of the best areas of Rome.

10-cosas-ver-roma-7-no-te-puedes-perder-

10. Trevi Fountain.

You can't go to Rome without throwing a penny over your shoulder into the Trevi Fountain with your right hand going over your left shoulder.

10-cosas-ver-roma-7-no-te-puedes-perder-

It is the most famous and impressive fountain in Rome. Furthermore, according to legend, if you throw a coin over your shoulder into the fountain, you will return to Rome.

But, this is important! If you throw two into the fountain you will find love with an attractive Italian, and if you throw three you will marry someone you know.

The fountain is as beautiful in the day as it is during the evening when it is illuminated. You will never see the Fontana de Trevi without people around it, or the typical people selling roses or those lurking around the area all day.

For me, the Trevi Fountainn is the MOST IMPRESSIVE THING IN ROME.
