What is it like to live in Riga? Would you recommend it? What is the city like?

I come from a small town in Latvia. I have been living in Riga for 5 years. You can get very different experiences in this city, it is a city of contrasts.

What is the student lifestyle like in Riga?

Well, it depends on each personal interests. I think that everyone can get what he wants. This is the capital city of Latvia, so this is the center of everything. Here there are students from all over the country and a lot of students from abroad. It is easy to find people with the same interests you have.

How much does it cost to live in Riga?

If you rent a flat together with other students you can find something for 150 - 200 Euro.

Is it difficult to find accommodation in Riga? Is there any advice you can give?

You can try to find an accommodation in some university student hostel - your buddy could help you to contact them.

What is the food like? What are your favourite dishes?

I am a local, so I'm used to it. The simplest dishes are fish or meat with potatoes or rice and some salad. But there are a lot of burger, kebab places and so on. A little bit cheaper is take-away food in food shop "Rimi". But it is much more cheaper to make food at your own place and take it with you.

What places would you recommend visiting in Riga?

Old town in the center of Riga - there are a lot of art galleries and museums. The city is famous for Art Nouveau architecture - so just take long walks.

Is it good to eat out in Riga? Can you tell us your favourite spots?

It is quite good, but mostly not very cheap.

A good place is "Ezītis miglā", it is famous among students. Good burgers. It is also a bar and a party place.

Is the nightlife good in Riga? Where is good to go?

It is good and it suits all tastes.

What advice would you give future students heading to Riga?

Ask local students what you want to know and what life hacks they use in Riga.
