Erasmus experience in Riga, Latvia
Why did you choose to go to Riga, Latvia?
It was the most far country I could be from my own.
How long is the scholarship? How much money do you receive to help you with living costs?
I recived 970 euros for 6 months.
What is the student lifestyle like in Riga?
Latvian people are a bit closed, but when they start drinking the party begins. Not with you, so It's better if you meet more ERASMUS to be with.
Would you recommend the city and the University of Riga to other students?

What is the food like?
It sucks. They just eat fried things.
How did you find your accommodation?
I did the EILC so I stayed the in RTU dormitory, in Kipsala.
What are the accommodation prices like? What are prices like for other things in general?
In the RTU dormitory is cheap, 150 euros with all included. There are floors just for ERASMUS, you can bring friends to pass some time there. Each apartament contains 3 double rooms, one tiny kitchen and one toilette and bathroom, separated.
That dorm is very close to the old town and is the best (Green Apple Hotel, B&B Hostel and Prima Hostel are expensive and don't have so much conditions)
I had friends living in flats, on the old town, and if you do have extra money you can do it. if not, RTU dormitory is the best solution.
Is the language easy to get to grips with? Are there language courses available at the University?
The language is so hard that everyone just spoke in English.
What's the easiest or most economical way to travel to Riga from your city?
Ryanair flights.
Where would you recommend to go on a night out in Riga?
And for eating? Can you recommend some good restaurants in Riga?
Rama (cheap vegetarian)
What good cultural sites are there to visit?
It's 5*. The access to culture is so cheap that you can't imagine.
Is there any other advice that you could give to students going to Riga in the future?
Make the most out of your stay!

Olá Daniela, Como é o nível de vida em Riga? Podes dizer o preço de alguns produtos, para eu ter uma ideia sff. Desde já agradeço teres partilhado a tua experiencia. :)
Olá Bruno! A moeda letã é o Late, que vale 1,4€. O hipermercado que mais completo é o Rimi, que é uma espécie de Continente; não é propriamente barato mas encontras lá tudo. Mas o sitio mais indicado para ires será o mercado, que fica mesmo junto ao terminal de autocarros. Lá os produtos são mais baratos e de melhor qualidade. O pão é barato e bom, mas quase todo o resto é caro; leite custa (o mais barato) cerca de 0.52Ls, o azeite mais manhoso custa cerca de 3Ls, o tabaco de 4 a 6Ls, champô 2 a 3Ls, a cerveja sem álcool num bar custa 1,80Ls (mas geralmente é mais barato com álcool e servem-te canecas de meio litro...). Um bilhete para o teatro/ opera (que aconselho, nem que seja para veres o seu interior) vai dos 2,5Ls até 17Ls. Um bilhete de autocarro para Vilnius (capital da Lituânia) custa de 6 a 10Ls. Vais para que escola? Espero que te tenha ajudado! ;) E boa viajem!
